Job summary

Region Ten Community Services Board seeks a Community Services Associate B/Peer Support Specialist to provide peer support for individuals with substance use disorders and help connect them to residential and outpatient services in Charlottesville area. You will coordinate residential placements and complete screenings, with outreach in public housing neighborhoods and transport as needed.

The role reports to the Program Manager of Recovery Support Services and requires adherence to DBHDS

Qualifications

• 1 year of peer support experience preferred; personal recovery is required.
• Lived recovery and active engagement in recovery-oriented services.
• Virginia Peer Recovery Specialist certification preferred; obtain within 1 year.
• Valid Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support services and help clients connect to residential/outpatient services.
• Complete residential screening assessments and coordinate placements.
• Conduct outreach and education in Charlottesville Public Housing neighborhoods.

POSITION TITLE: Community Services Associate B/Peer Support Specialist

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a FLSA non-exempt position. The position serves as a Peer Support Specialist for the Recovery Support Team and is responsible for providing peer support services to individuals with substance use disorder that need support connecting to residential and outpatient services at Region Ten. The individual is responsible for completing Residential Screening assessments and coordinating residential placements for individuals identified needing this level of support. In addition to individual peer support, this position provides outreach and education to people living in Charlottesville’s Public Housing neighborhoods. This position is responsible for transporting clients as needed to residential treatment and to appointments around the Charlottesville area.

This position reports to the Program Manager of Recovery Support Services and is expected to perform duties as specified and according to the policies of Region Ten Community Services Board, as well as those of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, preferred.
• 72-hour DBHDS Peer Support Specialist training completed prior to hiring preferred

EXPERIENCE:

• 1-year experience is preferred working (paid or unpaid) in a Peer Support role. Personal, lived experience in recovery is required; Sustained personal recovery is recommended.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

• Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist through the Virginia Board of Counseling is preferred at time of hire, and is required to be obtained within 1 year of employment
• To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the program, a valid Virginia Driver’s License plus an acceptable driving record as issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are required. For business use of a personal car, a certificate of valid personal automobile insurance must be provided.

KSAS

• Knowledge of: local community-based recovery resources that are available to adults and families; knowledge of substance use disorders and mental health disorders and available treatment options; harm reduction models; recovery-oriented systems of care

Skills in:

• providing individual peer support, group facilitation, trauma informed care, ability to engage consumers in person-centered, strength-based treatment planning, Word processing and computer operation.

Abilities to:

• establish rapport with individuals with substance use disorder and/or co-occurring disorders and their families; maintain effective working relationships with representatives of numerous professions; perform outreach and public education; accept supervision and seek it out when needed, and work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and professional. Able to drive a company vehicle to transport consumers as needed; ability to maintain documentation in an electronic health record, and familiarity with computers.

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:

• GRADE 8 (Non-Credentialed): $19.11 - $28.66 per hour
• GRADE 9 (Credentialed): $21.02 - 31.53 per hour
