Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Community Relations Intern to support Minnesota outreach, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination. This role provides exposure to local government relations, economic development, and utility operations across Minnesota while collaborating with Community Relations Managers.

The internship runs for a May 24, 2027 start date with potential extension based on performance and business needs. Must be a current student and able to travel within Minnesota.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher enrolled in an accredited college/university.
• Pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related fields.
• Willing to travel across Minnesota and work up to 40 hours/week in-person during summer.

Responsibilities

• Assist with updating and maintaining municipal and community contact databases.
• Support scheduling meetings, events, and local government engagements.
• Conduct research on municipalities, economic development, and legislative issues.
• Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and stakeholder profiles.
• Track permits, franchise agreements, and community investment projects.
• Assist with special projects to improve team efficiency.
