Job description

Clean Energy Ventures is an international, multi-fund, diverse venture capital team. And, now more than ever, we are focused on beating back climate change through innovation.

We are a different kind of climate tech VC firm: we lean into complex technologies, we transform strong technical teams into strong commercial teams, and we have a 20-year track record of successful investments. We invest in multifaceted - often hardtech - solutions that will enable decarbonization at massive scale, then provide hands‑on guidance to guide our startups’ successes.

Our team is transparent, growth‑oriented, and inclusive. We believe in the work we’re doing to help human civilization thrive sustainably, and in the power of the technologies and people we invest in.

Position Description

We’re looking for a Community Manager who can ensure the smooth‑running of our team and office and build a vibrant community in the clean tech ecosystem. The Community Manager is a member of our operations team and works closely with both internal team members and external stakeholders such as portfolio companies, limited partners, and co‑investors. The Community Manager creates space for connection and innovation by leading events, coordinating external relations efforts, and overseeing special projects.

The candidate will be creative and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial environment. The ability to exercise good judgment in a diversity of situations, exhibit strong administrative and organizational skills, leverage a high EQ, and critically assess how to balance multiple priorities are keys to success in this position.

Ultimately, you’ll contribute to the success of our business by providing support to all team members and creating programming and spaces for the team to grow and connect.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Work with the COO to drive internal culture plans, coordinate quarterly off‑site retreats, in‑person and virtual meetings and events, and team social gatherings.
  • Improve CEV’s climate tech ecosystem relations by planning and hosting events in North America and Europe, and creating opportunities for engagement with LPs and co‑investors in the climate tech space.
  • Serve as first stop for general inbound inquiries, understanding and directing all communications and filtering email inboxes of our Managing Partners as needed.
  • Work with the Manager of Impact Measurement and Management to support portfolio companies with ESG interventions and developing inclusive cultures.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive culture at CEV.
  • Make and manage travel and meal arrangements for the team around special events.
  • Own a variety of vendor relationships, including our co‑working space provider, software providers, and executive assistant services that oversee team‑wide meeting cadences.
  • Keep our team organized, from file management to Slack etiquette.
  • Manage meeting and calendar technologies, including controlling video conferencing software during meetings, booking conference rooms, and owning the company vacation and “out of office” calendar.
  • Provide support to our sister organization, Clean Energy Venture Group, as sometimes needed and instructed by their Executive Managing Director.
  • Act as pinch hitter, stepping in and stepping up when new needs arrive to drive effective and timely operation of our team and business.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Extremely high integrity with a strong reputation as honest, transparent, reliable, diligent, and trustworthy.
  • Tremendously well‑organized, to the point of being able to help those around you become well organized.
  • Reliable, proactive teammate with high emotional intelligence, especially in contexts requiring teamwork.
  • Experience managing many projects and tasks simultaneously, and determining importance among competing priorities.
  • Strong ability to understand tone of communications necessary for appropriate communication within the team, investors, portfolio companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting or organizing events ranging from team‑wide meetings to networking receptions or annual conferences.
  • Professional experience as an administrative assistant, event manager, chief of staff, or similar organization‑ and coordination‑oriented role.
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills.

When in doubt if you meet all these requirements, please apply.

Compensation & Benefits

We provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our team members, including:

  • Competitive salary
  • Carried interest (i.e., a share in the profits from Fund performance)
  • 401(k) and additional retirement plan benefits
  • Healthcare coverage or healthcare coverage subsidy
  • Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week‑long winter break at the end of December
  • Paid parental leave and medical leave of up to 20 weeks; short and long term disability
  • Work from home office stipend and cell phone stipend

Clean Energy Ventures operates in a hybrid work environment. You will be expected to attend some meetings weekly in our Boston office as well as have the opportunity to work from home as needed.
