Job description

Honcho is on a mission to build the largest and most valuable amateur pickleball community in the country. Through innovative, high-quality, and inclusive experiences, products, and services, we aim to supercharge the fun, accessibility, and community-building power of pickleball—the fastest-growing sport in the U.S.

Position Overview:

As the Community Manager , you’ll own the full lifecycle of our Ambassador Program — from recruitment to training to performance. You’ll serve as the primary point of contact and coach for all Honcho ambassadors in all active cities, ensuring they’re engaged, accountable, and equipped to deliver best-in-class experiences for our community of thousands of pickleball players nationwide.

This is a high-impact, fast-paced role with lots of autonomy, creative opportunity, and visibility into the national growth of a brand that’s reshaping recreational sports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all active ambassadors across the country and be their go-to relationship manager
  • Set expectations, create accountability systems, and drive consistent performance and alignment across all cities
  • Maintain regular communication and host check-ins to ensure engagement and alignment
  • Provide coaching, support, and motivation — and step in when standards aren’t met
  • Own the ambassador go-to-market strategy: sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Develop and manage a scalable pipeline of local ambassador talent in each new market
  • Create and refine onboarding flows, playbooks, and documentation for onboarding

Key Responsibilities:

Ambassador Management

Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Own the ambassador go-to-market strategy: sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Develop and manage a scalable pipeline of local ambassador talent in each new market
  • Create and refine onboarding flows, playbooks, and documentation for onboarding
Training & Process
  • Build and continuously improve ambassador training materials and playbooks
  • Standardize event-day and league-night procedures to drive consistency nationwide
  • Ensure ambassadors are equipped with tools, resources, and support
Systems & Accountability
  • Track ambassador performance using Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, and Slack
  • Build dashboards, feedback loops, and reporting systems to keep quality high and operations smooth
  • Manage incentive structures and ambassador commision logistics in coordination with leadership
Player Experience & Event Support
  • Serve as a supplemental voice for the player community when needed
  • Support player experience improvements through feedback relays and operational coordination
  • Assist lightly with event logistics and execution in coordination with other internal teams

What We’re Looking For:

Must-Haves
  • 2–3 years of experience in community management , customer success , event operations , or similar roles
  • Proven ability to manage people, set clear expectations, and hold others accountable
  • Strong organizational skills — you love spreadsheets, checklists, and process improvement
  • Experience building or managing ambassador , influencer , or brand rep programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable using tools like Google Sheets , Slack , HubSpot , and Airtable
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with event execution or sports league operations
  • Familiarity with pickleball , recreational sports, or fitness/lifestyle communities
  • Previous experience in a startup or early-stage company environment

Role Logistics
  • Location : Based in Houston, TX – remote-first with periodic weekly in-office collaboration and occasional travel for events
  • Hours : Full-time
  • Engagement: W-2 with benefits
  • Compensation : $55 - 70K based on experience
