Job summary

Firefly Children & Family Alliance is seeking a Community Liaison in Columbus, IN to advocate for at‑risk children and families. The role focuses on referral support, home-based services, and coordinating with local agencies to meet critical needs.

You will collaborate with schools and social workers, maintain documentation, and manage transportation to services. A relevant degree or substantial experience in human services is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field; or combination with 3 years’ experience with families.
• 2+ years of social service experience with children or families.
• Knowledge of community resources and programs.
• Training in recognizing abuse or neglect.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Assess referral family needs and guide families through goal-setting.
• Provide home-based services and link to resources for at-risk families.
• Initiate referrals and coordinate with local supports and services.
• Advocate for families to meet progress goals.
• Provide transportation to programs and appointments.
• Assist during crisis situations.
• Maintain familiarity with community resources and relationships with social workers and agencies.
• Complete required documentation accurately.

Firefly Children & Family Alliance is hiring a Community Liaison in Columbus, IN. In this position you will collaborate with community agencies and resources to directly advocate for at-risk children and families in order to facilitate critical needs assessments, prevention, and progress monitoring services for referral families. This position will cover Jackson & Jennings counties.

You Will

Referral Family Support (70%)

• Conscientiously gain insight and information about referral family needs and their community environment to lead families through the Firefly Children & Family Alliance goal-setting process
• Provide multiple home-based services and resource connections to at-risk families
• Initiate referrals and connections with local community supports and services
• Advocate for and provide support to referral families to exceed individual family progress goals
• Attentively provide transportation to families to attend programs and appointments to meet their goals
• Assist during crisis situations

Community Engagement (30%)

• Maintain familiarity with community resources and maintain relationships with social workers and agencies, including school systems and other multiple institutions, related to the family
• Thoroughly complete required documentation

You Have

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a directly-related human service field from an accredited college OR Other Bachelor's degrees will be accepted in combination with three years' experience working directly with families in a human service field OR Associate's degrees in a related human services field with three years' experience working directly with families in a human service field OR High School Diploma or equivalent with five years' experience working directly with families in a human service field
• 2 + years of experience in social service for children or families
• Experience in child development
• Knowledge of community resources programs
• Train in recognizing abuse or neglect
• handle a variety of situations that may arise during visitations
• Valid driver's license with valid insurance and no more than 6 points on driving record
