• Provides basic health education through individual and group encounters.
• Assesses participant needs and provides health information and resources.
• Plans and leads group health sessions and discussions.
• Refers to family support, health, and social services as needed.
• Attends conferences as directed and supports program goals.
• Promotes Gateway health professions programs and coordinates health-related activities.

This part-time position will provide community health education classes to rural and disadvantaged populations in the North Central Area Health Education Center (NC AHEC) 16-county service area.

Job Duties

• Gives informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors.
• Advocates for individual and community health needs, and provides some direct services such as first aid and blood pressure screening.
• Promotes tobacco cessation and prevention services, and other health-related programs.
• Participates in community health education events, and all appropriate Area Health Education (AHEC) outreach events and programs.
• Provides basic health education through individual encounters and focus groups, community health presentations.
• Assess participants needs and concerns; as they relate to their family, their community and their health, and provide health information and education.
• Plans and leads group sessions and discussions on assigned health topics.
• Makes referrals/Shares community resources to family support, health, and social services agencies in the area.
• Attends conferences as directed and/or assigned.
• Assists in completing other programs goals and requirements/as needed.
• Promotes health professions programs at Gateway.
• Coordinates health-related activities and

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• 1 year experience
• Bilingual, Spanish - English
• Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations.
• Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/her self in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
• Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
• Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor
• 5 years experience
• CPR and Frist Aid certification, Certified Community Health Worker
