Job summary

YAI Network in New City, NY is seeking dedicated staff for Rockland Community Habilitation to provide one-to-one supports in home and community settings. The role emphasizes safety, person-centered approaches, and collaboration with families and other professionals.

Responsibilities include following policies, completing trainings, driving when needed, and documenting activities for compliance and billing. A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle are required.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
  • Ability to travel in Rockland county.
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one supports in community and home settings.
  • Complete mandatory trainings (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving).
  • Meet OPWDD Core Competencies.
  • Ensure health, wellness and safety by managing crisis situations and providing appropriate supervision.
  • Transport and escort people we support to activities and medical appointments.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment using person-centered approaches and tools.
  • Ensure person-centered plans are implemented and documented for compliance and billing.

Job description

Program Rockland Community Habilitation Location New City - 345 N. Main Street

Schedule: Full time, Part time, weekday and/or weekend positions available - including morning, afternoon, and evening schedules.

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Adhering to policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Using effective communication skills and time management skills.
  • Providing one-to-one supports in community and home settings.
  • Completing mandatory trainings based on the program and position (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving, etc.), as well as applying skills.
  • Meeting and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies.
  • Ensuring health, wellness and safety by managing crisis situations and providing appropriate supervision of the people we support.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to assist people with ADLs.
  • Transporting and escorting people we support on recreational activities, medical appointment, home visits, etc.
  • Building Positive relationships.
  • Maintaining a therapeutic environment through a variety of methods: Personal Outcome Measures, Person Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making.
  • Ensuring person centered plans are implemented.
  • Completing documentation to ensure compliance and billing.
  • Using foundational Teaching skills (EMOE, Task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications, etc.
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Personal vehicle, car insurance.
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for work.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Basic written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to support people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to travel in Rockland.
  • Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions.
Preferred Qualification Requirements
  • High School diploma or its educational equivalent preferred.
  • Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities is a plus.

Compensation

YAI was launched in February of 1957 out of a small school in Brooklyn, New York. Initially staffed by Co-Founders Bert MacLeech and Pearl Maze MacLeech alone, their pilot program served just seven people. According to Bert, from its very beginning YAI has been dedicated to providing innovative services for the I/DD (intellectual and/or developmental disabilities) community. MacLeech envisioned a, “total life adjustment approach, emphasizing personal growth, social responsibility, employment goals, and the development of independence for the individual.” At a time when institutional living was the norm for people with I/DD, this vision was nothing short of revolutionary.

YAI Today

Today, YAI has a team of over 4,000 employees and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community. This extraordinary growth shows the ongoing need for these important services, and YAI’s success in offering them. YAI supports people with autism, Down syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy, among others. Operating throughout Downstate New York and Northern New Jersey, YAI now offers more than 300 programs for people of all ages.
