Job summary

Nashville Rescue Mission seeks a Community Engagement Manager and Chaplain to provide spiritual care for staff and to act as a community ambassador across Middle Tennessee. The role builds partnerships with churches, volunteers, donors, and civic groups while promoting the Mission's impact and faith-driven ministry.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years in ministry leadership or related ministry work, with strong communication and public speaking skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced theology or ministry degree preferred.
• Minimum of three years in ministry leadership, pastoral care, chaplaincy, church relations, community engagement, nonprofit outreach, or related experience.
• Experience developing partnerships and engaging diverse audiences preferred.
• Strong biblical knowledge and ability to communicate biblical principles effectively.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with local churches, pastors, ministry leaders, and community organizations.
• Serve as primary representative at community events, church gatherings, conferences, and civic meetings.
• Develop strategies to increase church engagement in volunteering, prayer support, service projects, and partnership opportunities.
• Coordinate speaking engagements and presentations communicating the Mission's impact, vision, and ministry opportunities.
• Collaborate with Development, Volunteer Services, and Program teams to strengthen community awareness and engagement initiatives.
• Identify and develop new partnership opportunities with churches, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
• Assist with volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts among faith-based organizations.
• Organize church tours, ministry visits, and outreach events connecting community members with the Mission's work.

At Nashville Rescue Mission is actively seeking a Community Engagement Manager and Chaplain to join our team. Are you the right person?

The Community Engagement Manager and Chaplain serves as both a spiritual care provider to Nashville Rescue Mission staff and a representative of the Mission within the community. This position is responsible for fostering the spiritual health and well-being of staff while developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with churches, community organizations, volunteers, donors, and civic groups. The individual serves as an ambassador for Nashville Rescue Mission, promoting its mission, ministry, and impact throughout Middle Tennessee. The Community Engagement Manager and Chaplain understands that ultimate healing comes from a life lived for Christ in obedience to His Word and provides spiritual guidance from a biblical worldview while upholding the Mission Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct at all times.

Position Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

• Assists with volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts, particularly among faith-based organizations.
• Organizes church tours, ministry visits, and outreach events that connect community members with the Mission's work.
• Serves as a liaison between Nashville Rescue Mission and community stakeholders to foster goodwill and collaborative ministry opportunities.
• Maintains records of outreach activities, partner engagement, and community relationship development.
• Works closely with leadership to advance strategic goals related to community visibility, church engagement, and volunteer participation.

Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care - 40%

• Provides a ministry of presence and spiritual care to staff across all Mission locations.
• Leads devotions, prayer gatherings, Bible studies, and special spiritual enrichment opportunities.
• Provides confidential one-on-one pastoral support, guidance, and counseling to staff.
• Responds appropriately to staff experiencing crisis, grief, illness, or other personal challenges.
• Assists leadership in promoting a Christ-centered workplace culture.
• Develops and facilitates training on topics related to spiritual formation, resilience, emotional wellness, and biblical leadership.
• Maintains appropriate and ethical documentation when counseling or support services are provided.
• Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities related to chaplaincy and pastoral care.

Other Duties:

• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by executive leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, or Divinity or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of ministry leadership, pastoral care, chaplaincy, church relations, community engagement, nonprofit outreach, or related experience.
• Experience developing partnerships and engaging diverse audiences preferred.
• Understanding of homelessness, addiction recovery, poverty, and faith-based nonprofit ministry is highly desirable.
• Strong biblical knowledge and ability to communicate biblical principles effectively.
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Public speaking and presentation experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organizational and project management abilities.
• Ability to interact effectively with staff, church leaders, donors, volunteers, community leaders, and Mission guests.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM/database systems.
• Ability to qualify as a designated Mission vehicle driver under Nashville Rescue Mission's insurance policy:
• Valid driver's license
• Have no more than two moving violations in a 3-year period or more than one accident in a 1-year period
• Proof of insurance on personal vehicle (current)

Physical Factors:

• Requires an above average amount of walking, standing, stair climbing, and travel between Mission locations and community events.
• Daily includes reading, research, typing/computer usage.
• Regular public speaking and presentation responsibilities.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed for church and community events.
