Since 2004, Turning Point for Women + Families has been combating domestic violence and empowering women across the NYC Muslim diaspora. As a community‑based nonprofit, our mission is to combat domestic violence and nurture healthy families through holistic services that promote self‑efficacy. We are committed to empowering Muslim women at all stages of life with culturally and religiously sensitive support.
Our direct services program offers crisis intervention, counseling, case management, support groups, legal advocacy and transitional housing. Our youth program focuses on instilling a foundation of self‑confidence and leadership in Muslim girls through community service engagement, workshops and trainings, and its weekly youth group. Our seniors program offers ESOL and civics classes, empowering them to navigate their later years with dignity.
Even beyond these services, Turning Point plays a vital role in strengthening the wider ecosystem of support for survivors. We conduct outreach across New York City to challenge harmful community norms around domestic and gender‑based violence, train community members and service providers through best practices that are also culturally specific, and mentor the next generation of social workers.
We are seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to lead our Community Connectors initiative. This role is responsible for recruiting, training, and providing ongoing support to peer liaisons from NYC’s diverse Muslim communities. The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in raising awareness about domestic violence, strengthening referral networks, and fostering grassroots mobilization through culturally responsive, community‑led efforts. This role also supports broader digital and in‑person outreach initiatives to strengthen community engagement.
