Job Description:

As the Community Development Coordinator you will serve the Evansville Corps Service Area (Vanderburgh, Warrick and Posey Counties) as a part of the development team. This position will work toward the expansion of services in the Evansville Area through the recruitment, development, coordination, and placement of volunteers for Christmas fundraising, social services programs, corps programs and special community events. This position will develop and cultivate relationships with community partners and serve as a representative of The Salvation Army throughout the community. The position also focuses on increasing awareness of The Salvation Army’s ministry through social media, digital communications, promotional materials, and community engagement ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

Volunteer Development & Recruitment:

Recruit and develop qualified volunteers from within the community by collecting applications and screening volunteers to work in The Salvation Army programs.
Maintain the volunteer database in Golden and provide reports as necessary.
Provide in-depth training and continuing education for volunteers.
Create and email monthly newsletters to volunteers highlighting opportunities for service.
Work with each department to determine volunteer needs.
Place volunteers to work with other departments in the various ministries.
Update and maintain the volunteer manual.
Coordinate volunteer groups and volunteers for the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign using the approved contracted sites.
Support the fundraising goals of The Salvation Army through building stronger relationships with volunteers.
Collect and manage monthly records of volunteer hours to produce reports (i.e. divisional statistics, advisory board, grants, etc.).
Develop promotional materials to be used at volunteer recruitment events.
Develop and cultivate relationships with community resources and partners (i.e. churches, service clubs, police/fire departments, individuals and families throughout the community).
Participate in and provide volunteer, promotional, and logistical support for seasonal fundraising, development, corps, and community events as assigned.
Represent The Salvation Army at community meetings, networking opportunities, volunteer recruitment activities, and outreach events as appropriate.

Community Service Coordination:

Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals completing court-ordered or other approved community service with The Salvation Army.
Coordinate the intake, scheduling, placement, and tracking of community service participants in collaboration with appropriate departments.
Maintain accurate records of community service participation and completed hours and communicate with referring organizations as appropriate.

Social Media & Communications:

Create and maintain a strategy for all social media platforms in accordance with Salvation Army policies and branding standards.
Maintain and update website content and stories using Salvation Army provide website tools.
Research current trends and preferences for websites and social media outlets
Monitor and analyze website and social media engagement to determine wheter communication objectives are being met.
Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content from all departments to promote programs, services, volunteer opportunities, fundraising campaigns, events, and community impact.
Suggest and implement new features and strategies to develop mission awareness and community engagement.
Create and coordinate event graphics, flyers, promotional materials, signage, digital content, and other communication resources as needed.
Coordinate appropriate photography and video content at programs, events, and community activities.
Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field preferred.

Background Checks:

Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience:

Prior experience with nonprofit organization or other vocational experience working with volunteers, community members, or community partners. Experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, marketing, communications, event coordination, or related work preferred. Experience with social media, digital content, and graphic design platforms preferred.

Certifications:

Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:

Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
Ability to create professional written, visual, and digital content and represent The Salvation Army appropriately in community settings.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Physical Requirements Include:

Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
May require bending, squatting, walking.
May require standing for extended

Travel:

Minimal travel for off-site conferences and training possible.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment; may require some weekend and evening work
