Job summary

Youth Guidance in Chicago is seeking a part-time Community Coordinator to support youth engagement and community activities linked to the MCMF grant.

You will assist with outreach, events, and program documentation, focusing on Garfield Park and West Side partnerships, with occasional evenings and Saturdays.

This hands-on role reports to the Program Partnerships & Operations Manager and is grant-funded through December 31, 2026.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Experience with youth, young adults or community programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple activities and events.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and engage 6-12 youth in Garfield Park.
  • Maintain regular communication with participants and encourage participation.
  • Support youth meetings, trainings, and activities.
  • Help youth connect with workforce development and community opportunities.
  • Collect attendance, timesheets and program feedback.

Salary Range: $25.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Position Overview

The Community Coordinator will provide part-time support for youth engagement and community activities connected to the MCMF grant initiative. The coordinator will focus primarily on supporting youth participants, assisting with community outreach and events, and helping the Program Partnerships & Operations Manager maintain program communication and documentation. The person in this role must be within easy commuting distance to the west side of Chicago.

This position is designed to provide hands‑on coordination support.

Key Responsibilities
Youth Engagement
  • Support the recruitment and engagement of up to 6 - 12 youth participants living in Garfield Park
  • Maintain regular communication with youth participants and help encourage participation.
  • Support youth meetings, training, and activities assigned.
  • Help youth connect with workforce development, leadership, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with tracking youth participation and attendance.
Community & Event Support
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and supporting MCMF community events and youth convenings.
  • Support outreach and communication efforts to encourage youth and community participation.
  • Attend community events as needed, including occasional evening or weekend events.
  • Help maintain positive relationships with participating Westside community partners.
Program Administration
  • Assist the Program Partnerships & Operations Manager with program logistics and follow-up.
  • Assist youth with collecting basic participant feedback and survey information following events and convenings.
  • Assist youth with compiling brief event and activity summaries.
  • Support collection and organization of youth timesheets and stipend documentation.
  • Attend monthly MCMF meetings as needed.
Expected Time Commitment

This position averages 14 hours per week. Work hours may vary based on program needs and activities. Candidates should expect to work Saturdays and weekday evenings as required.

The Coordinator will work under the direction of the Program Partnerships & Operations Manager. Responsibilities may be adjusted based on program priorities and grant activities.

This is a grant funded position through December 31, 2026. Continuation past that date depends on funding availability among other factors.

Youth Interns

The MCMF Youth Internship component provides young people with hands‑on experience in community engagement, event planning, leadership development, and workforce development.

  • Weekly meetings and training sessions
  • Three community events

  • Community networking and engagement opportunities
  • Outreach and promotion of youth activities

The Community Coordinator will support youth interns and program activities but will not be solely responsible for supervising, managing, or evaluating the youth internship program.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or coursework in social services, education, community development, youth development, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Preference to candidates locatedin Chicago, preferably with familiarity and connections to the Garfield Park community.
  • Experience working with youth, young adults, or community-based programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple activities, meetings, and events.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, attendance data, surveys, timesheets, and program documentation.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to attend meetings, community events, and activities throughout the West Side community.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for community events and youth activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting youth leadership, workforce development, mentoring, or community engagement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of community resources, workforce development programs, and youth-serving organizations within Chicago.
  • Experience planning or supporting community events, workshops, or outreach activities.
  • Experience collecting participant feedback, surveys, and program metrics.
  • Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
