Job summary

M.C. Dean in Charleston is seeking a Telecom Technician 3 to lead installation, planning and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment.

You will supervise a crew of five or more technicians, ensure quality inspections, and maintain safety standards across projects. Responsibilities include installing low voltage cabling, fiber and copper systems, documenting work, and reviewing design documents to ensure on-time, cost-effective outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years prior experience in commercial communications industry.
  • 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have a valid driver''s license and clean driving record to drive company vehicle.
  • Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
  • Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test and to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Have knowledge of and understand safe use of hand tools and various power tools.
  • Wear required PPE and follow Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Install various types of Low Voltage Cable.
  • Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecom systems (fiber, CAT 5/6/6A).
  • Survey and document existing telecom infrastructure with accuracy.

Date & Time: Thursday, 9/10/2026 from 9:00am -3:00pm

  • A Telecom Technician 3 is responsible for the Installation, Planning, Organizing and Scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders, including assigning tasks, assuring the work is being installed in a high-quality manner and performing quality inspections.
  • Monitors task completion, compliance and prevents safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Oversees a crew of five (5) or more technicians and apprentices.
  • As a technician you should have the work experience installing equipment which involves using hand tools and power tools, a working understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints and knowledge of codes and standards. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full time employees with company benefits.

Clearance/Citizen Type: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements including U.S. citizenship for access to classified information.(Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.)

Responsibilities
  • Have knowledge of and understand the safe use of hand tools and various power tools
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Follow Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Actively Participate in Daily Safety and Work briefings
  • Install various types of Low Voltage Cable
  • Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as: various pathways and cable trays, various cabinet and racks, various telecommunications devices, prefabricated components and assemblies, and telecommunications grounding systems
  • Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices.
  • Sketch rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations.
  • Participate in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost effective, and quality project outcomes.
  • Install, power up and connect fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet/rack.
  • Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing and raceways layouts.
  • Produce 4 week look ahead plans to include, productivity planning for assigned scopes of work, material procurement/staging and tracking weekly productivity to plans.
  • Possess the ability to train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to facilitate installing cable from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO) while following drawings and run lists to ensure cables are installed methodically and arranged in proper bundles at TR for ease of dressing and termination.
  • Maintain accurate as built drawings - As-built drawings are to be updated and logged onto master record contract drawings a minimum of once a week.
  • Perform quality assurance checks of their team's work ensuring cable install is performed within all applicable requirements.
  • Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site clean up
  • Secure company tools and materials daily
  • Up to 25% Travel which may include domestic and/or international.

Qualifications

  • Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by six (6) inches. These are not provided by the Company.
  • Provide basic tools from provided tool list prior to 1st day of employment.
  • This position is subject to an additional customer drug screening and background check.

Abilities
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
