Job Overview
A Telecommunications Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders, including assigning tasks, ensuring the work is installed in a high‑quality manner, and performing quality inspections.
Responsibilities
- Monitors task completion, compliance, and prevents safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Oversees a crew of five (5) or more technicians and apprentices.
- Inspects, terminates, tests, and troubleshoots ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as architectures, cable trays, cabinets, racks, telecommunications devices, prefabricated components, assemblies, and grounding systems).
- Surveys and documents existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices.
- Sketches rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations.
- Participates in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost‑effective, and quality project outcomes.
- Installs, powers up, and connects fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet or rack.
- Calculates grounding conductor, conduit sizing, and raceway layouts.
- Produces 4‑week look‑ahead plans to include productivity planning for assigned scopes of work, material procurement/staging, and tracking weekly productivity to plans.
- Trains and supervises apprentices in a team environment to facilitate cable installation from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO) while following drawings and run lists to ensure methodical installation and proper bundling at TR for ease of dressing and termination.
- Maintains accurate as‑built drawings and updates and logs onto master record contract drawings at least once a week.
- Performs quality assurance checks of their team’s work to ensure cable installation meets all applicable requirements.
- Maintains a clean work area and participates in job‑site clean‑up.
- Secures company tools and materials daily.
- Up to 25% travel, which may include domestic and/or international.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of prior experience in the commercial communications industry.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Subject to an additional customer drug screening and background check.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance.
- Excellent safety record, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record to qualify for driving a company‑owned vehicle.
- Successful completion of background checks and drug tests.
- Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Ability to pass basic telecommunications knowledge test.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Strong communication, time‑management, and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives.
- Consistently reports to work on time and works well with others to accomplish a common goal while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by at least six inches; these are not provided by the Company.
- Provide basic tools from the provided tool list prior to the first day of employment.
Abilities
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; demonstrates physical strength and stamina to perform loading, unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in material transport. Must follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
- Relocates a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
- Works at heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possesses good vision (may be corrected), ability to see in color, and ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
- Identifies potential problems by recognizing when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- Applies general rules to specific problems to produce sensible answers.
- Combines pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events.

Desired Skills
- BICSI credentials including Technician Manufacturing Certifications and/or Fiber Certification.
