Job summary

MELE Associates, Inc. is seeking a mission-driven Communications Systems Specialist to support NEST operations with classified computing and secure communications systems at Albuquerque, NM.

You will provide hands-on IT and communications infrastructure support in both classified and unclassified environments, with a focus on networking, security, and operational readiness. This full-time on-site role requires 25% travel CONUS and the ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of 6 years of IT system administration, networking, or communications support.
  • Experience managing network infrastructure and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with secure communications protocols and cross-domain security solutions.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for classified and unclassified systems and mobile communications.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Support integration and sustainment of off-the-shelf and custom hardware and software solutions.
  • Travel CONUS (25%) to conduct IT/Communications training for end users.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining inline hardware encryptors.
  • Maintain deployable communications system readiness and diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on deployments and training.
  • Support compliance with DOE and Intelligence Community IT security standards.
  • Assist staff with ad hoc teleconferencing and IT issue troubleshooting.

MELE Associates is seeking a mission-driven Communications Systems Specialist to support NEST operations with classified computing and secure communications systems. The successful candidate will provide hands‑on technical support for a variety of IT and communications infrastructures in both classified and unclassified environments. This role requires a strong foundation in networking, system security, and operational readiness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for classified and unclassified systems and mobile communications equipment.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network components including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Support the integration and sustainment of off-the-shelf and custom hardware and software solutions.
  • 25% travel, CONUS, to conduct IT/Communications training with operational end users.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining inline hardware encryptors.
  • Maintain readiness of deployable communications systems, including hardware lifecycle tracking and routine diagnostics.
  • Train and collaborate with cross-functional teams, sometimes across different organizations, on solution implementation, system deployments, training, logistics planning, and capability documentation.
  • Support compliance with DOE and Intelligence Community standards for IT system security.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel to support mission objectives.
  • Assist office staff with ad hoc troubleshooting on teleconference and general IT issues
  • Support facility network infrastructures and problem resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent technical training and experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in IT system administration, networking, or communications system support.
  • Demonstrated experience managing network infrastructure and troubleshooting network issues.
  • Familiarity with secure communications protocols and cross-domain security solutions.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-tempo, mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience supporting Department of Energy or other government mission environments.
  • Experience in configuration and operation of Persistent Systems products
  • Experienced creating and conducting training on communications/networking equipment.
  • Experience supporting deployable IT/communications kits for field operations.
  • Baseline understanding/experience ECM, RF theory, and radio communications systems.
  • Baseline understanding/experience with COMSEC.
  • Active DOE Q or TS security clearance.

Location : This is a full-time on-site position in Albuquerque, NM with 25% travel.

SALARY: Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
