CFK Africa is recruiting a Communications Manager based in our US office in Chapel Hill, NC. The role leads all communications and content creation, supports grant proposals, and enhances CFK's visibility with donors and partners.

The successful candidate will be a strong writer and strategic communicator, able to translate CFK's impact into compelling narratives, produce reports and fundraising materials, and coordinate with Kenya staff and external vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of full-time work experience in communications, PR, journalism or nonprofit development.
• Excellent writing and copyediting skills and a passion for storytelling.
• Experience producing grants, especially in education, workforce development or girls' advocacy.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and travel domestically and internationally.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Google tools and design platforms (Canva, Adobe Express).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute CFK's communications strategy to raise donor awareness and grant support.
• Gather stories and impact narratives from participants and partners; produce donor communications and annual/impact reports.
• Participate in grant proposal development, including budgets and supporting documents.
• Manage CFK's website and social media, monitor engagement metrics and archives.

Job Description

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports To: Executive Director

Location: Hybrid, based in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC

Salary: $70,000 - $85,000, Commensurate with experience

CFK Africa (CFK) is recruiting qualified individuals to serve as Communications Manager based in our US office in Chapel Hill, NC. We seek candidates who are drawn to challenging and impactful work within a global community development organization, have excellent judgment, and can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative multi-cultural environment.

Position Summary

The Communications Manager leads the organization's communications and content creation efforts and participates in collaborative grant proposal development. This position increases the visibility of CFK's mission, secures grant funding, and demonstrates program impact through effective storytelling. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer, strategic communicator, and skilled grant writer who can translate the transformative impact of CFK's programs into compelling narratives that inspire action, investment, and long-term partnership. This position follows a hybrid work model, with employees expected to work in the Chapel Hill office three days per week, subject to business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and Execute Communications Strategy

• Create and execute CFK's communication plan.
• Increase awareness of CFK's impact among donors, partners, volunteers, stakeholders, and the informal settlement communities we serve.
• Manage and maintain brand assets, ensuring they are current, accessible, and consistently used in accordance with brand standards.
• Translate program outcomes and data into engaging, donor-focused content.
• Coordinate Press and PR, working with an external consultant and in collaboration with Kenya staff.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Gather and develop compelling stories, testimonials, and impact narratives from youth participants, community leaders, staff, and partners.
• Write, design, and edit high-quality content, including annual reports, impact reports, donor communications, newsletters, website content, blog articles, press releases, executive communications, white papers, concept notes, fundraising materials, presentations, and sponsorship proposals.
• Produce videos in collaboration with Kenya staff that highlight CFK's history, vision, and work.

3. Grant Writing & Proposal Development

• Participate in the grant development process from prospect identification through submission for CFK's education, girls' empowerment, and workforce initiatives.
• Collaborate with program and finance staff to develop proposal narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation.
• Tailor proposals to align with funder priorities and requirements.
• Ensure submissions are accurate, compelling, and submitted on time.
• Coordinate and prepare interim, annual, and final grant reports.

4. Website & Social Media

• Manage, develop, and update CFK's website.
• Implement CFK's social media in collaboration with Kenya staff.
• Monitor and report on content engagement metrics.
• Manage CFK's archive of multimedia content.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Support board communications, executive presentations, strategic initiatives, and special events.
• Coordinate external vendors, consultants, designers, photographers, and content creators as needed.
• Mentor staff on storytelling, branding, and communications best practices.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be high-energy, creative, and independent. This person will thrive in a fast-paced environment, both autonomously and as part of a small, collaborative team. Candidates must be willing to travel to Kenya at least once annually and domestically once a quarter. Cross-cultural communication skills, the ability to pivot to meet needs, and excellent project management skills are essential for success.

• Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of full-time work experience,preferably in a communications, public relations, journalism and/or non-profit development role.
• Excellent writing and copyediting skills, and a general passion for telling good stories.
• Experience with producing grants, especially in fields such as education, workforce development and girls' advocacy.
• Ability and desire to work with diverse groups.
• Commitment to CFK Africa's missions and values.
• Experience with graphic design software and a desire to create (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; Familiarity with Google environments.
• Experience with email marketing and automation platforms (MailChimp experience a plus).
• Ability and desire to travel both domestically and internationally (must have a valid U.S. passport upon hire).
