Job description

About JCPA

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) brings Jewish organizations and partners across communities together to advance an inclusive democracy and confront antisemitism and hate. Our work is rooted in the belief that Jewish safety is inextricably linked with the safety of other communities and the strength of a pluralistic democracy. Through advocacy, coalition building, and support for the Jewish community relations network, JCPA mobilizes people and organizations nationwide to turn shared values into action.

About the role

The Communications Manager will play a key role in a new chapter for JCPA, building and running the email, social, web, and supporter-data programs at the center of the organization’s advocacy, fundraising, and public engagement work. This role will serve as the core generator of JCPA’s public-facing communications, building the content and storyline of JCPA’s work, successes, and theory of change daily.

The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and works closely with JCPA’s senior leadership and development staff.

Primary responsibilities

Email Strategy and Copywriting (40%)

  • Building and managing JCPA’s email program in EveryAction, including setting strategy, drafting content, and sending to segmented audiences, community relations professionals, clergy, communal and coalition leaders, advocates, donors, and funders, on a send calendar that keeps each audience’s asks focused and well paced.
  • Designing and maintaining automated email journeys, including an up-to-date and data-driven welcome series that introduces new subscribers to JCPA and routes them to the content that fits their role and interests.
  • Owning email and supporter-data measurement, including the tracking conventions shared across JCPA’s channels, weekly performance snapshots, and quarterly reporting.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across communications, policy, community leadership, and development so every email advances a clear goal and connects to JCPA’s broader campaigns.

Social Media and Content Development (30%)

  • Building and managing JCPA’s social media program across LinkedIn, Bluesky, X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Writing and publishing a steady weekly cadence of content that showcases JCPA’s campaigns, coalition work, and impact.
  • Creating short‑form video, graphics, and other platform‑first content that explains JCPA’s theory of change and highlights its successes and partnerships.
  • Monitoring JCPA’s channels, the broader news cycle, and communal conversations; flagging emerging stories and engaging with partners and supporters online.
  • Tracking performance by platform and reporting what drives sign‑ups and deeper engagement, not just reach.

CRM Management and Administration (15%)

  • Carrying out digital fundraising in close partnership with JCPA’s development team.
  • Co‑managing JCPA’s CRM database with development and operations staff, including responsibility for digital‑related data hygiene, list health, re‑engagement and suppression, source codes, and subscriber preferences.
  • Tracking how supporters deepen their engagement with JCPA over time, from first sign‑up to repeat action, and reporting that movement to leadership and development.

Website Strategy and Copywriting (15%)

  • Managing JCPA’s website, including regularly writing and updating content and ensuring that the site continually reflects the organization’s priorities, successes, and news.
  • Developing a long‑term website strategy in partnership with the Director of Communications and web and graphic design consultants.
Skills and qualifications
  • Four to six years of experience running email programs, social media strategy, or both at an advocacy group, nonprofit, political campaign, government office, or newsroom.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to adapt one message for different audiences and to write quickly and well on deadline.
  • Significant experience with CRM and email platforms and comfort with data, including audience segmentation, automation, A/B testing, and performance reporting. Direct experience with Bonterra products, including EveryAction, is strongly preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience managing social media platforms and working fluency in template‑based design and video tools such as Canva or Adobe products.
  • Experience with paid social and boosting on Meta and LinkedIn, and comfort with platform analytics and tracking links.
  • An organized self‑starter who can collaborate, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, turn around content quickly when news breaks, and manage multiple projects on deadline.
  • A willingness to adapt, learn new skills, and communicate early about questions, competing priorities, and support needs.
  • An understanding of nonpartisan communications in a 501(c)(3) setting.
  • Passion for the Jewish values and priorities at the core of JCPA’s work, including democracy, pluralism, and the fight against antisemitism and hate.
Compensation and other details

The annual salary range for this role is $75,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience.

JCPA prefers candidates based in the New York City or Washington, D.C., area but will also consider candidates working remotely from other locations.

JCPA offers a comprehensive benefits package and paid time off, including:

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • A retirement plan with a 3% employer contribution.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and personal days.
  • Paid federal and Jewish holidays.
  • Early Friday closings.
