Job summary

Washington Trust for Historic Preservation in Seattle is seeking a Communications Manager to lead strategic messaging across programs and audiences. You will drive digital narrative, manage communications calendars, and ensure brand consistency while collaborating with stakeholders.

You will support the Development Director and multiple programs—from advocacy to fundraising—and oversee content across newsletters, social platforms, and websites, with travel and in-office presence weekly.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • 3+ years’ experience managing social media accounts and messaging
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with ability to craft clear messaging for diverse audiences

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization in digital narrative strategy and content creation in partnership with stakeholders across the organization
  • Develop and manage a communications calendar for all platforms, incorporating input, priorities, and messaging from across the organization
  • Build and maintain organizational messaging, voice, and brand consistency
  • Craft content for and manage a variety of different platforms (email newsletters, social media, press releases, digital stories, online advocacy)
  • Develop relationships with media and cultivate earned media opportunities
  • Manage the development, design, and distribution of all digital and print collateral
  • Manage and create content for Washington Trust’s websites
  • Lead strategy, planning, and execution of daily social media activity across multiple platforms
  • Track and measure online engagement over time
  • Manage digital subscribers and media contacts
  • Utilize online advocacy tools to promote advocacy and connect audience members with decisionmakers
  • Support Development Director and other program staff in planning, messaging, and events
  • Liaise with web developers for webpage maintenance
  • Coordinate with printers and vendors for collateral production

Washington Trust for Historic Preservation

This is a Full-time position that reports to the Development Director, Kristy Conrad. The applicant must be located in the Seattle area and willing to spend significant in-office time each week at the office located at 1204 Minor Avenue, Seattle. Some travel is required. Priority will be given to those who apply by August 14.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

The Communications Manager will spearhead strategy and implementation for all communications of the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation in order to consistently articulate the mission and goals of the organization. In all messaging, the Communications Manager will be responsible for maintaining a cohesive organizational voice and ensuring broad accessibility for a myriad of audiences to the Washington Trust’s work.

Reporting directly to the Development Director, the Communications Manager will work closely with multiple Washington Trust staff members to support communications for a variety of programs and events—including the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area, Washington State Main Street Program, Youth Heritage Project, advocacy initiatives such as the Most Endangered Places Program, and fundraising efforts such as donor campaigns and annual events.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the organization in digital narrative strategy and content creation in partnership with stakeholders across the organization
  • Develop and manage a communications calendar for all platforms, incorporating input, priorities, and messaging from across the organization
  • Build and maintain organizational messaging, voice, and brand consistency
  • Craft content for and manage a variety of different platforms (including e-newsletters, social media, press releases, digital news stories, and online advocacy tools) that engages multiple audience segments and leads to measurable action
  • Develop relationships with media and cultivate earned media opportunities
  • Manage the development, design, and distribution of all digital and print collateral including (but not limited to) brochures, annual reports, event materials, and mailings
  • Manage and create content for Washington Trust’s websites
  • Lead strategy, planning, and execution of daily social media activity across multiple platforms
  • Track and measure online engagement over time
  • Manage digital subscribers and media contacts
  • Utilize the Washington Trust’s online advocacy tools to promote advocacy and connect audience members with key decisionmakers
  • Support Development Director and other program staff in planning, messaging, and implementing events throughout the year
  • Liaise with web developers to conduct webpage maintenance and updates as needed
  • Coordinate with printers and other vendors in the production of collateral
Skills & Experience Required
  • Highly collaborative style and team ethic
  • Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of programs and initiatives concurrently
  • Proven ability to unify multiple programming messages and lead communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Proven ability to ability to manage/utilize visual elements (photos, logos) for a cohesive branding approach
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • 3+ years’ experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • 3+ years’ experience managing social media accounts and messaging
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and basic design skills
  • Proficiency with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp
  • Proficiency with online content management systems such as WordPress
