Job summary

International Friendships, Inc. seeks a Communications Manager to guide all local communications, website, and public relations work in Columbus. You will articulate IFI's mission through newsletters, social media, and print media for volunteers, donors, and students.

The role involves coordinating events, managing a team, and ensuring budgets and partnerships support IFI's outreach. Flexible hours and volunteer engagement encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Experience supervising others and managing projects.
  • Training or certification in online media creation and social media.
  • Familiarity with design concepts evidenced by a portfolio.
  • Willingness to use Trello, Canva and Adobe CC apps.
  • Experience with global social media platforms and cross-cultural ministry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a Columbus-area communications plan.
  • Produce monthly newsletters for local volunteers, prayers, donors, and students.
  • Manage social media content for the Columbus ministry accounts.
  • Improve Columbus websites performance and engagement.
  • Coordinate media for local events and large gatherings.
  • Lead staff and interns with coaching and performance reviews.
  • Oversee annual Columbus Communications budget.
  • Develop financial and prayer partnerships for budget needs.

International Friendships, Inc. is a growing faith-based organization, whose mission is to extend life-changing hospitality and friendship to international college students. We do this by offering services, such as airport pickups, holiday hosting, temporary housing, conversation partnerships, and social events and trips.

Expected Work Schedule For The Communications Manager
  • Full- or part-time, flexible schedule
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends for specific events/projects
  • Attendance at several conferences each year, including IFI Staff Retreats
Pay Structure For An Communications Manager
  • Requires the development of a ministry partner team which supplies the necessary prayer and financial support to cover salary, benefits, and ministry expenses
  • Training is provided to develop a team of ministry partners
  • Pay range is typically between $36,366 and $95,481 after the period of support development, based on experience and other factors

About The Area And Responsibilities Of a Communications Manager

The Communications Manager guides the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate IFI's mission.

The Communications Manager Will (list Not All Inclusive)
  • Research, develop, implement, and evaluate a Columbus communications plan across IFI's discrete audiences in collaboration with the IFI team and constituents, including:
    • Monthly email newsletters to local Columbus volunteers, prayers, donors, and students.
    • Social media strategies and post content to be used by the Columbus ministry accounts
    • Online content on websites and social media that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action
    • Columbus websites performance, including making improvements to increase visitor engagement online
    • Print/online graphics, such as mass mailings, newsletters, brochures, videos, and websites
    • Videos to vividly express IFI's ministry to international students, local volunteers, and donors.
  • Ensure media needs for local events, such as, event signups, video/audio, photography, and mailed/online promotions
  • Hire media production teams for large live events, including an annual banquet and large student events
  • Manage staff and interns to help them excel in their work and meet deadlines and requirements by:
    • Providing coaching, oversight, assessments for performance, and expectations for funding (paid staff)
    • Providing staff care, fostering an environment for growth and spiritual health, ensuring staff members are vision driven
    • Meeting individually with direct reports for encouragement
  • Submit and manage the annual Columbus Communications budget.
  • Develop and maintain financial and prayer partnerships for the budgeted needs of the role by sharing the vision of the ministry, ensuring minimum monetary standards are achieved, partner care, and sending out a ministry newsletter at least every other month to partners
  • Other duties, as assigned. Duties/responsibilities may change at any time.

We strongly encourage engagement as a volunteer (outside of normal job duties) in direct ministry to international students, such as helping at events, hosting, or being a conversation partner.

Qualifications/expectations Of The Communications Manager
  • Adherence to IFI's statement of faith, core values, and policies
  • Is faithful, loyal and dedicated to IFI's mandate from the Lord to extend life-changing hospitality and friendship to international students out of reverence for Jesus
  • Well organized with attention to detail and ability to complete tasks independently
  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently, as well as a team player
  • Ability to work under stress and be flexible and hold others accountable
  • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office and Google applications
  • Exhibits a positive, professional manner and ability to work under stress and be flexible
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
Communications Manager Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or demonstrable experience
  • Experience supervising others and managing projects
  • Training, experience, or certification in online media creation, social media, or online marketing
  • Familiarity with concepts of design exemplified by a portfolio of work
  • Willingness to use/learn Trello, Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including, but not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro and Audition
  • Experience/familiarity with global social media platforms and social media advertising is preferred, as is experience with cross-cultural ministry
