Purpose

The Communications Manager will manage communications areas and coordinate the development of communications initiatives that support University Housing and Dining's (UHD) strategic plan, mission and vision. The person in this role will work collaboratively with internal and external units and participate in developing content.

Responsibilities
  • Generates impactful written content for internal and external audiences that ensures consistent voice, style and branding. Serves as editor and reviewer for website content. Work with team members to plan and write content for Spotlight editorial calendar that features high impact, engaging stories on the UHD website. Assist the Associate Director for Communications as needed in writing/editing departmental communication, media requests and serving as content editor.
  • Analyzes operations and identifies opportunities for communications. Works with the Operations Manager to strategize and manage projects that advance UHD brand through communications initiatives in cooperation with UHD marketing and communications team, department stakeholders and/or other University personnel. Maintains communications goals and objectives that promote, highlight, and/or tell the story of UHD programs, services and operations.
  • Manages a team, evaluates performance, assign tasks directly, and reviews and coordinates work in process. Oversees day-to-day project management of content team, including monitoring new projects, assigning task due dates and ensuring on-time project completion.
  • Collaborates with team members and departmental key stakeholders in identifying, specifying, planning, and supervising campaigns, publicity, promotions and/or public relations required to communicate and market UHD initiatives, events, services or operations. Work with communications peers across the University in support of UT-level initiatives.
  • Leads the collection, analysis and reporting of communications metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of internal and external communication strategies, campaigns and content. Monitors key performance indicators across communication channels and prepares regular reports that translate data into actionable insights for leadership and stakeholders. Uses audience engagement data and communication trends to inform content strategy, improve message effectiveness and support continuous improvement of UHD communications initiatives.
  • Partners with human resources on interviewing, selecting, training, and engaging with staff and students. Assumes responsibilities of other team members or managers as needed. Performs related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least 3 years in a manager and/or supervisor capacity

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or similar field
  • 3 or more years professional or paraprofessional supervisory experience managing communications or marketing initiatives, including supervising staff, leading content development, coordinating projects across multiple stakeholders, and supporting strategic communications, public relations, or digital communications efforts
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written for various mediums and audiences, including experience writing and communicating on behalf of department and/or department leaders
  • Ability to form and maintain interpersonal relationships with team members and across departments to work collaboratively on concurrent projects, ensuring that deliverables are achieved on time, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to understand communications needs, gather key information, and develop strategic, audience-appropriate messaging and plans across a variety of projects and platforms
Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Schedule

Monday - Friday / 8am - 5pm / Onsite. Work days, hours and area may vary based upon the needs of the unit and University Housing and Dining.

Employment Eligibility

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
