Job summary

SLG Services, Inc. seeks a Telecom Lineman in New Jersey to join a crew building and maintaining overhead telecom plant. You will climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and install fiber and coax, following safety and industry standards.

You’ll read construction prints, splice and test fiber/coax, coordinate with groundhands, and contribute to reliable service for providers. Valid license and ability to pass screenings are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of experience as an aerial lineman or in telecom, cable, or utility construction.
• Ability to safely climb poles and work at heights (40+ feet).
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR; ability to obtain DOT medical certification.
• Working knowledge of aerial construction methods, tools, and safety equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to read maps, prints, and schematics.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and MVR review.

Responsibilities

• Install, relocate, splice, and maintain aerial fiber optic and coaxial cable and related hardware.
• Climb utility poles or operate bucket/aerial lift to access aerial plant.
• Read and interpret construction prints and engineering schematics to determine job scope.
• Place, lash, and tension aerial cable per NESC clearance and sag requirements.
• Perform splicing, termination, and testing of fiber and coax cable as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair service outages and signal-quality issues in the field.
• Coordinate with groundhands and foreman to stage material and equipment safely.
• Inspect poles, anchors, and hardware for safe working condition prior to climbing or aloft.

About The Company

SLG Services, Inc. performs turnkey outside-plant (OSP) telecom construction — aerial and underground placement, fiber and coax splicing, testing and restoration — as a single self-performing partner to leading communications providers.

The Role

The Telecom Lineman performs aerial construction, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and coaxial cable, by climbing poles and operating aerial lift (bucket) trucks. The Lineman works as part of a crew to safely and efficiently build and maintain overhead plant in accordance with company and industry standards

Responsibilities

• Install, relocate, splice, and maintain aerial fiber optic and coaxial cable and related hardware.
• Climb utility poles using proper climbing gear and technique, or operate bucket/aerial lift trucks to access aerial plant.
• Read and interpret construction prints, staking sheets, and engineering schematics to determine job scope.
• Place, lash, and tension aerial cable in accordance with NESC clearance and sag requirements.
• Perform splicing, termination, and testing of fiber and coax cable as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair service outages and signal-quality issues in the field.
• Coordinate with groundhands and the foreman to safely stage material and equipment.
• Inspect poles, anchors, and hardware for safe working condition prior to climbing or working aloft.
• Operate and maintain company vehicles, aerial lift trucks, and hand/power tools.
• Follow all safety procedures, including fall protection, PPE use, and traffic control.
• Complete daily job documentation, including work orders, material usage, and as-built records.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as an aerial lineman or in telecom, cable, or utility construction.
• Demonstrated ability to safely climb poles and work at heights (40+ feet).
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record; ability to obtain DOT medical certification.
• Working knowledge of aerial construction methods, tools, and safety equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to read maps, prints, and schematics.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and MVR review.
