Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Communications Hardware Electronics Engineer in Palmdale, CA or El Segundo, CA. The role requires working in an IPT and on-site, with 25% travel.

Responsibilities include design and integration of rack-based comms hardware, perform signal and power analysis, create drawings per ASME/IEEE, BOM, and support lab and field tests.

Security clearance required (Secret; higher levels may be required) and funding dependent.

Qualifications

Description

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Communications Hardware Electronics Engineer. The position is located in Palmdale, CA or El Segundo, CA. The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

Note: This opportunity is contingent on program funding. Start dates are determined after funding confirmation.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering capture, build, integration, test and maintenance of communications hardware in laboratory and field settings.
• Design rack-based communication, test, support equipment, and cabling to meet system requirements, to include:
• Understand and perform electrical signal and power analysis at the rack level.
• Develop engineering drawings in accordance with ASME and IEEE standards, including rack assembly drawings, interconnect wiring diagrams and custom cable assemblies.
• Develop Bill of Material to support build of systems.
• Specify rack cabling (RF, optical, 1553, power) and cooling systems.
• Develop and perform System Verification procedures.
• Install communications, test and support equipment in lab and field environments.
• Provide lab, site integration, test, and maintenance support.
• Participate in troubleshooting systems to resolve complex issues, coordinate with responsible communications engineers for sustaining sub-systems.
• Prepare presentations, brief stakeholders, and provide project status updates.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote/hybrid/telework available for this position. Travel 25% to 45% during surge periods may be required.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience.
• Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs.
• Must have color vision to identify cables and wires.
• Must have working knowledge of governing and industry standards to include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-100G, and ASME Y14.100.
• Must have an active US Government Secret Clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret clearance with investigation date within the last 5 years and ability to obtain and maintain access to SAP.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude to learn quickly.
• High attention to detail and emphasis on first time quality.
• Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
• Working knowledge of Ethernet, 1553 bus systems and FibreChannel.
• Experience with drawing and release tools – CATIA V5, Visio, Teamcenter Enterprise PLM.
• Working knowledge of communication engineering theory and RF systems.
• Experience with production of complex systems.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering.

Salary: Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Benefits may include overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
