Job summary

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Office of External Relations. This role collaborates with the Chief Communications Officer and leadership to provide administrative, editorial, and event support, helping to advance the Center's outreach and public affairs.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including editorial judgement.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, initiative, and project management skills.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.

  • Provide administrative support for the CCO and Director of Strategic Communications as needed, including calendar management, expense reporting, invoice processing, and budget tracking.
  • Collaborate with ER and research teams to support development and execution of communications and outreach strategies for campaigns and initiatives.
  • Plan, execute, and manage ER-led events, including those hosted by the CEO’s office; provide logistical and communications support.
  • Develop and maintain project management and performance-tracking systems across the Office of External Relations.
  • Draft, edit, and produce communications content including marketing and promotional materials.
  • Oversee external relations internship program including hiring, training, and development.
  • Support media relations and digital media efforts.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSISseeksa highly motivated CommunicationsCoordinatorto help execute the Center’s bipartisancommunications andoutreach efforts as part of the Office of External Relations (ER).This position will work closely with the Chief Communications Officer(CCO),Director of Strategic Communications,andleadershipto provideadministrative,project management,editorial,media relations,digital communications,andevent managementsupport.Workingacross all core functions of the CSIS communications operation, theCommunicationsCoordinatorwill playa criticalroleindrivingthe Center's external outreachstrategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provideadministrative support for theCCOand Director of Strategic Communicationsas needed, includingmanagingcalendar,expense reporting, invoice processing, and budget tracking;
  • Work closely with ER and research department colleagues to support the development and implementation of communications and outreach strategies, including for special initiatives, projects, and campaigns;
  • Plan, execute, and manage ER-led events, and provide logistical and communications support for high-level institutional events, including those hosted by the Office of the CEO;
  • Support the CCO and Director of Strategic Communications in developing and maintaining systems for project management and performance measurement across the Office of External Relations;
  • Draft, edit, and produce communications content, including marketing and promotional materials;
  • Manage external relations internship program including hiring, training, and professional development;
  • Support the Center’s media relations engagement and digital media;
  • Available to work flexible hours as needed around CSIS events and developments in the news cycle;
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field;
  • Minimum one year of relevant professional experience;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including editorial judgement;
  • Exceptional attention to detail, initiative, and project management skills;
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure;
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and independent self-direction;
  • Strong professional judgement, maturity, and discretion;
  • Proficient in relevant tools and systems, including social media platforms, analytics tools such as Google Analytics, and media databases such as Meltwater and Muck Rack;
  • Experience with Salesforce and Pardot a plus;
  • Strong interest in global affairs and public policy preferred.

Salary Range

$57,000 - $62,000 USD
