Job summary

Campaign Legal Center in Washington, DC is seeking a Communications Associate to serve as the communications team liaison with legal and policy staff responsible for the Campaign Finance and Ethics portfolio. The role focuses on developing communications strategies and content and amplifying CLC’s work to policymakers and donors.

The position reports to the Sr. Manager, Communications and requires attention to detail, project management, and strong writing skills.

Qualifications

  • At least 1-3 years of communications or journalism experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to write quick and accurate content that is SEO- and GEO-optimized and draws on tested messaging.
  • Solid understanding of campaign finance and ethics issues and a desire to learn more, as well as the ability to quickly learn nuances in the work.
  • Experience understanding and explaining legal or legislative concepts.
  • Proven track record of building trust, building positive and respectful relationships with colleagues, and liaising and collaborating effectively within and across departments.
  • Stellar attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
  • An openness to new ideas and differing approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, ensure accountability, and continually adapt, grow, learn and improve.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact from the Communications team to program staff working on Campaign Finance and Ethics and lead project manager for strategic communications plans related to Campaign Finance and Ethics
  • Liaise between communications and program staff to coordinate, review and refine all written content related to Campaign Finance and Ethics
  • Develop communications plans, own review processes and collaborate with colleagues to ensure timely production of all deliverables related to Campaign Finance and Ethics
  • Collaborate with other communications staff as well as legal and policy colleagues to write and edit high-quality written materials including short-form blogs and updates, longer-form analysis pieces, media newsletters, quotes, press releases, case pages, fact sheets and other communications products
  • Partner with communications colleagues as well as program colleagues to craft organizational positioning and messaging that respond to emerging and growing threats to government institutions
  • Coordinate with program colleagues on Campaign Finance and Ethics reports, case studies or memos, contributing to the content and ensuring effective rollout
  • Edit content for AP style and grammar, as well as DEI values and messaging and brand guidance
  • Closely follow developments and news related to the Campaign Finance and Ethics portfolio
  • Track all programmatic and policy actions at the federal, state and local levels related to Campaign Finance and Ethics and keep the communications team apprised of key developments
  • Make regular updates to CLC’s website and provide strategic guidance and draft copy for web, email, and social media platforms

Job description

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing democracy through law. CLC is seeking a Communications Associate to serve as the communications team liasion with legal and policy staff responsible for the Campaign Finance and Ethics portfolio. The Communications Associate will develop communications strategies and content in their portfolio area, working closely with programmatic colleagues to amplify CLC’s work on Campaign Finance and Ethics, advance the organization’s profile to policymaker and donors audiences, and elevate the organization’s thought leadership on these core issues more broadly.

Role Description

This position requires attention to detail, strong project management, excellent writing skills and a proven track record of working effectively across teams, as well as strong knowledge of the current and historic legal landscape of campaign finance and ethics. The Communications Associate role reports to the Sr. Manager, Communications and will work closely with the VP, Communications; Sr. Director, Communications and the entire Communications team. The position requires the capacity to work some nights/weekends when necessary for rapid response. Preference is for candidates in the Washington, D.C. area who can work on a hybrid schedule (in-office at least one day per week), but fully remote will be considered for exceptional candidates.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: 64,787 - 87,654
