Job summary

Mobile Communications America (MCA) seeks a Communication Systems Technician II in the Charlotte, NC area to support our Voice division. The role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and optimizing Two-Way Radio, P25, and MotoTRBO systems for public safety and other critical customers.

You will work with customers to plan installation and programming strategies, assist in project scoping and quoting, and help grow the technical skills of the service team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of technical service and installation experience.
  • Average of 5+ years of technical service and installation experience.
  • Proven track record of providing hands-on operational, technical, and installation support.
  • Extensive knowledge of radio theory and RF propagation characteristics.
  • Strong subscriber programming skills for various radio types.
  • P25 and/or MotoTRBO experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex equipment, programming, system, and installation issues (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking, MOTOTRBO).
  • Restore service and bring communications back online for public safety, hospitals, and mission-critical customers.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop installation/programming strategies and coordinate site access.
  • Assist in scoping out and quoting service, installation, and programming projects.
  • Support talent development and upskill the service team.
  • Complete assigned tickets properly and on time.
  • Make minor modifications to circuitry and deploy firmware updates.
  • Be willing to learn new technologies and be mentored.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call technical support.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving complex equipment, programming, system, and installation problems/issues. (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.)
  • Fixing the system if things go wrong and bringing communications back online to public safety, hospitals, and other mission-critical customers.
  • Partnering with customers to develop an installation/programming strategy and coordinate with the team to ensure access to locations where products will be installed.
  • Assisting in the scoping out and quoting of service, installation, and programming projects.
  • Supporting the development of talent and technical skill sets of the service team.
  • Completing assigned tickets properly and on time.
  • Making minor modifications to electronic circuitry per customer request and/or deploying factory software/firmware updates.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to learn and be mentored onnew technologiesin communications and equipment.
  • Serving in an on-call rotation and providing 24/7 technical support.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:
  • Minimum two (2) years, an average of 5+ years of technical service andinstallation experience.
  • Proficient with radio equipment – installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Proventrack recordofprovidinghands-on operational, technical, and installation support/service to complex radio and other wireless communications systems/equipment (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge/understanding of radio theory, RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands, and communications systems.
  • Subscriber programming expert and can successfully program various radio types based on customer requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with end users and third parties.
  • P25 and/orMotoTRBOexperience is required.
YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.

On-call for critical systems maintenance may be required. First shift hours are Monday–Friday, with occasional 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends depending on project schedules.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel as necessary to support company and customer needs

A company vehicle will be provided for all work-related travel. The individual must have a valid driver's license and successfully pass our Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
