Job summary

Hayward Industries, Inc. seeks a Commodities Manager to oversee worldwide acquisition costs for Electrical and Electronics commodities.

You will collaborate with sourcing, engineering, quality and transportation to implement cost reduction and quality initiatives across sites. Responsibilities include forecasting cost drivers, consolidating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and driving supplier performance through scorecards.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of electronics and PCBA manufacturing.
  • Undergraduate bachelor degree required with an MBA preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Data based, quantitative approach to analysis and problem solving for issues surrounding product cost, value chain, logistics and risk.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to accomplish objectives as both a team member and team leader.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to generate and work with Excel models while simultaneously implementing new business enterprise systems.
  • Excellent project management skills and understanding of Microsoft Project.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with proven knowledge of commodity management activities and appropriate supplier selection, development and management skills including management of sub-contracting resources.
  • Working understanding of current ISO/ QS quality standards.
  • Experience collaborating with design engineering, manufacturing and suppliers in new product introductions.
  • Good engineering practices including documentation (appropriate geometric design and tolerance), change control, reporting and cost/benefit analysis.
  • Working understanding of the application of Statistical tools used for development, qualification and maintenance of processes.
  • Ability to travel 5-15% of the time, nationally or internationally as required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Overview

The Commodities Manager will manage the worldwide total acquisition costs, supplier negotiated and contractual relationships and logistics for Electrical and Electronics commodities as directed by the Global Supply Chain Manager. These activities include, but are not limited to, working in conjunction with the global sourcing, engineering, quality and transportation organizations to develop and implement business strategies at the various site levels around supply chain consolidation, cost reduction, quality improvement, as well as supplier assessment and associated scorecard activities. In addition, the Commodities Manager oversees all activities related to the procurement of the commodities, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

Maintain extensive product, production processes and commodity knowledge for the responsible supply segment including, but not limited to, competitive market conditions, risk assessment, technical acumen, global opportunities and future developments, obsolescence, and strategic opportunities. Understand, track, and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned commodities. Develop forecasts and budgets for assigned commodities. Leverage supply of materials by consolidating the purchasing of materials to key supplier partners to reduce worldwide number of suppliers and optimize cost and service. Negotiate supply contracts that include terms, pricing, volume agreements, inventory strategies, competitive benchmarks, performance, regulatory compliance, and annual cost reductions to name a few, and that also supports Hayward Lean initiatives. Monitor manufacturing site level contracts and services based on long term volume planning. Elevate issues to corporate supply chain organization as needed to ensure contract consistency. In conjunction with the global sourcing organization, participate in the development of 1 to 3 year commodity specific strategies to include spend analysis, market and geographic considerations, strategic importance, etc, and establish goals and implementation action plans to support divisional and business level vision (e.g. technology, make/buy, supply base consolidation, strategic supplier direction, quality goals, e-commerce, domestic versus international sourcing, supplier owned material competitive intelligence, market/industry analysis, etc.). Identify, implement, and track key areas of opportunity to drive aggregate cost and quality improvements to improve PPV and reduce total cost of quality. May be done in conjunction with companywide sourcing.

Support Activities

New product introduction planning and associated supplied product obsolescence and change activities. Advise management of issues that will impact production and drive coordination of appropriate corrective action when necessary. Participate in long-term process and ERP system upgrades to improve planning, supplier management and execution of orders while simultaneously minimizing plant inventory. Support transition to a lean manufacturing environment, supply chain pull systems and Six Sigma initiatives. Participate in creating and driving supplier corrective action as related to site based quality and delivery issues. Qualify new suppliers and associated start-up activities including first articles qualification (PPAP), production ramp, packaging definition, quality definition, print quality, test systems, and EOL procedures. Drive quarterly scorecard activities for all assigned suppliers to ensure continuous improvement of supplier performance.

Physical Requirements

Travel among Hayward facilities, both domestic and international, will be required, as well as some supplier facilities. Total travel will be approximately 5-15%.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee normally works in an office environment but occasionally will be required to work in a manufacturing or laboratory at both Hayward and supplier facilities.
