Job summary

Power Electronics is seeking a Commissioning Technician to lead the setup, testing, and integration of our inverters at customer sites. This role requires frequent travel across states, with most weekends away, and offers hourly pay plus bonuses.

You will configure, test, and commission PE inverters, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while supporting installation teams. The ideal candidate has electrical training or licenses, strong hands-on testing skills, and comfort with computers.

Qualifications

• Trade school in electrical field or equivalent.
• Journeyman or Master electrician license required.
• AS or BS in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or similar.
• Proficient with electrical test equipment and basic computer use.
• Willing to travel 100% with weekends/holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Start-up and commissioning of solar inverters at customers' photovoltaic solar plants.
• Configure inverters for project requirements, including communication protocols and grid settings.
• Conduct testing to ensure proper functionality and performance under various conditions.
• Integrate inverters into overall PV system including wiring to panels and distribution.
• Execute commissioning procedures including calibration and grid synchronization.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot inverter issues and implement corrective actions.
• Submit accurate commissioning records and reports per project requirements.
• Provide training and technical support to installation teams and maintenance staff.
• Travel based on operations demands, approximately 100% of the time.

Your Impact

The Commissioning Technician is dedicated to the meticulous setup, testing, and integration of Power Electronics’ inverters, ensuring they meet project specifications and operate at peak performance.

As a Commissioning Technician, this position will require 100% travel through different States all year. Most weekends included. Besides hourly pay and bonuses, company will cover for all costs.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Start-up and commissioning of solar inverters at customers' photovoltaic solar plants.
• Configure Power Electronics' (PE) inverters according to project requirements, including setting up communication protocols, grid settings, and operational parameters.
• Conduct testing of PE inverters to ensure proper functionality and performance, including voltage checks, frequency measurements, and power output testing under various operating conditions.
• Integrate PE inverters into the overall photovoltaic system, including connecting inverters to solar panels, batteries (if applicable), and electrical distribution systems, while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Execute commissioning procedures for PE inverters, which may include system startup, calibration of sensors, verification of protection functions, and synchronization with the electrical grid (if applicable).
• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to PE inverters, such as communication errors, electrical faults, or performance deviations, and implement corrective actions to resolve problems and ensure system reliability.
• Prepare and submit accurate records of commissioning activities sucha as Work Reports (using Power On Support), including test results, inverter configurations, and commissioning reports, to ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards as well as JSA Reports.
• Provide training and technical support to installation teams, maintenance personnel, and end-users on inverter operation, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance requirements.
• Travel based on operations demands. 90% of the time.
• Other responsibilities may be assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• Trade school in electrical - Journeyman/Master's electrician license - AS or BS in Electrical / Electronics Engineering or similar.
• Strong proficiency using electrical test equipment including Multi-meter
• Strong knowledge using computers on user level
• 100% travel availability all year round. Days to travel back home: some weekends, holidays and PTO.
