Job summary

Environmental Air Systems is seeking a Cx Technician to verify readiness, test, troubleshoot, and ensure performance of HVAC equipment and systems. You will work with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and owner representatives to close gaps between mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes.

The role involves travel for commissioning activities, documentation to meet owner requirements, and adherence to safety and QA/QC standards.

Qualifications

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Card/Certification required.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in HVAC/mechanical commissioning preferred.
  • High School or Trade/GED required; commercial experience desirable.
  • Strong computer and documentation practices (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • NFPA 70E certification or equivalent is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system-readiness inspections for startup, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Verify prerequisites across mechanical, electrical, and controls before startup.
  • Identify gaps across scopes and coordinate ownership to close readiness gaps.

Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Cx Technician is responsible for verifying the readiness, testing, troubleshooting, and performance of mechanical and HVAC equipment and systems. This position requires strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls systems. Works with EAS project teams, field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, the General Contractor, the Commissioning Authority, and 3rd party owner representatives to ensure systems are complete, properly installed, operational, and ready for commissioning and turnover. This position will identify and help close gaps between mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes that could impact startup, system testing, schedule, or final acceptance. Regular travel is required to support commissioning actives, typically for months at a time. Travel may include extended assignments and overnight stays outside the employee’s home state. The technician is responsible for the safety, quality, accuracy, and completeness of their work, including timely documentation that meets EAS, General Contractor, Commissioning Authority, and Owner requirements.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform system-readiness inspections to confirm mechanical and HVAC equipment is complete and ready for startup, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Verify that mechanical, electrical, and controls prerequisites are complete before equipment startup or functional testing.
  • Identify gaps, deficiencies, and incomplete work across mechanical, electrical, controls, TAB, vendor, and General Contractor scopes.
  • Coordinate with the responsible parties to assign ownership, establish completion dates, and close readiness gaps.
  • Track deficiencies through completion and verify that corrective work has been properly performed.
  • Support mechanical and HVAC equipment startups in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer requirements.
  • Perform pre-startup inspections and activities for EAS-installed equipment and third-party vendor equipment.
  • Oversee and/or perform refrigeration piping installation verification, evacuation, charging, and startup activities in compliance with applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Conduct system testing to verify proper operation, capacity, sequencing, alarms, safeties, interlocks, and system response.
  • Assist with functional performance testing and integrated system testing as required by the project Cx plan.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and controls-related issues that prevent equipment or systems from operating as intended.
  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and verify control-system components, sensors, actuators, wiring, and related devices.
  • Verify that equipment controls and building automation system points operate in accordance with the approved sequence of operation.
  • Understand and inspect electrical installations associated with mechanical equipment in accordance with project requirements and the National Electrical Code.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, equipment submittals, control diagrams, flow diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Review and comply with equipment Installation, Operation, and Maintenance manuals.
  • Review approved equipment submittals to verify installation, startup, and testing requirements.
  • Understand and follow EAS mechanical QA/QC standards and project-specific commissioning requirements.
  • Coordinate commissioning and startup activities with EAS project teams, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, controls contractors, electrical contractors, TAB contractors, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Coordinate vendor and supplier support for equipment startup, troubleshooting, repairs, parts, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct and participate in system-readiness, prefunctional, commissioning, General Contractor, and Owner walks.
  • Clearly communicate deficiencies, outstanding work, system status, and required corrective actions during field walks and coordination meetings.
  • Participate in commissioning meetings and provide accurate updates regarding system readiness, testing progress, deficiencies, and schedule risks.
  • Complete prefunctional checklists, testing records, deficiency documentation, and commissioning reports in CX Alloy.
  • Complete required documentation in Owner-provided or project-specific commissioning platforms.
  • Upload photographs, test data, supporting documents, and deficiency-resolution evidence as required.
  • Document system performance and immediately communicate issues that could affect safety, quality, schedule, equipment warranty, or Owner acceptance.
  • Maintain tools, instruments, equipment, and company vehicles in good working condition.
  • Complete and submit timesheets, expense reports, travel documentation, and other required administrative records in a timely manner.
  • Follow all EAS, project, site, and customer safety requirements.
  • Perform all work in a manner that supports EAS standards for Safety, Quality, and Productivity.
Education
  • High School or Trade Graduate or GED
  • Holds an EPA Universal Refrigerant Card/Certification
  • Minimum five years hands-on experience in this industry or a related field is required
  • Commercial experience is desirable
