Job description

Build the future, spark innovation and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we're building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We're making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:

  • renewables and energy services
  • engineering and design
  • construction and facility services

To get where we're going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Program Manager to join our team as a member of our growing South Technical Services division. This position would be part of the regional leadership and play a key role in guiding and growing a dynamic team of building consultants. McKinstry has a unique perspective on the life of a building, and our Technical Services suite of owner-direct offerings helps our clients make good decisions that will improve the efficiency, comfort and lifespan of the building.

This person will primarily be responsible for the following programs and projects:

  • Existing Building Commissioning (Re/Retro Cx)
  • New Construction Commissioning
  • Measurement & Verification (M&V)
  • Active Energy Management - Our Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) and Data Analytics program

In this role you will lead South technical staff in three key areas:

Project Planning & Delivery

You will serve as a technical leader with a focus on the programs listed above. You will provide technical support and guidance on a wide variety of projects in the areas of energy efficiency and commissioning. Working alongside project managers, you will determine the project approach and staffing required to produce high quality deliverables. Serving as a direct project participant or in an oversight QA/QC role, you will drive excellence in project delivery to ensure customer satisfaction while maintaining financial targets.

Additionally, you will serve as a key point of contact for McKinstry's Business Development team for energy and commissioning-related sales pursuits, supporting the technical response and budget development for new opportunities.

Technical Leadership and Expertise

You will serve as a technical leader in energy efficiency and commissioning. You will be the go-to person for quality control and quality assurance for the programs outlined above. This role will include reviewing and optimizing our internal processes and tools to increase efficiency and quality of work.

Both through in-office conversations and in-field project work, you will train junior engineers in technical concepts such as HVAC system design and operation, developing and executing functional performance tests (FPTs), identifying energy conservation measures, and developing energy savings calculations.

People Management

You will manage and mentor a team of high-performing engineering professionals. People management includes frequent 1-on-1 meetings with direct reports, annual goal setting, performance reviews, and career development planning, as well as general guidance and mentoring.

Within the program manager role, you will also review team staffing needs and help identify gaps in the team's capabilities. You will support hiring efforts and develop project staffing plans.
