Fluidstack is seeking a seasoned commissioning engineer to spearhead mechanical commissioning for high-performance data centers. You will be responsible for leading operations from initial testing through to final handover, ensuring every system is ready for service.
Ideal candidates should have more than 10 years of hands-on experience with data center mechanical systems, including chillers and cooling towers, along with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Compensation ranges from $250,000 to $300,000, including equity options.
Lead mechanical commissioning across flushing, cooling, heat rejection, and liquid cooling systems for high performance data centers, spanning Level 1 through Level 5 commissioning phases.
Drive the Testing & Verification program for mechanical cooling, heat rejection, and data hall thermal systems, working with commissioning agents and engineers from pre-site testing through on-site functional testing.
Own commissioning documentation across multiple projects and sites, tracking issues, test results, and reports with enough rigor to hold up under an owner audit.
Run on-site commissioning operations across general contractors, designers, and vendors: inspections, safety enforcement, progress tracking, and issue resolution.
Close out final operational handover for mechanical systems, confirming every system is ready for service before occupancy.
Examples of key problems the team is working on
Stand up the commissioning program for 50GW+ of capacity this decade.
Run commissioning and QA-QC for first-of-a-kind modular data centers.
Automate Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning.
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You have a minimum of 10 or more years of hands‑on commissioning experience.
You’ve commissioned data center mechanical equipment firsthand: chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, CDUs, direct‑to‑chip liquid cooling, pumps, hydronic piping, and BMS/BAS integration.
You’ve run hydronic flushing, cleaning, and pressure and hydrostatic testing on process piping, and you know AABC/NEBB TAB standards well enough to catch a bad test result before it gets signed off.
You’ve built and executed Testing & Verification programs end to end, from pre‑site functional testing through on‑site startup, troubleshooting, and support.
You show up in design and constructability reviews with commissioning and operations in mind, catching issues before they’re built into concrete and steel.
You keep commissioning records, issue logs, and test reports rigorous enough that any of them could stand up to an owner or insurer audit.
You hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bonus: ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guideline experience. Controls or electrical systems knowledge. Hyperscale or mission‑critical data center project experience. Managing multiple concurrent project sites.
Compensation: $250,000 - $300,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. Offers equity in the form of stock options. We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
