Job summary

Blackedge Consulting is seeking a Lead Project Manager / Commissioning Manager for major construction projects across the United States. You will oversee commissioning activities, manage databases, and lead onsite commissioning meetings with site teams and trade partners.

This role requires traveling 100% and supervising commissioning staff. The ideal candidate has prior lead roles in commissioning, experience across multiple disciplines, and a track record setting up CxAlloy databases and

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of building trades, with focus on mechanical, piping, or electrical.
  • Oversee Commissioning Specialists and Assistant Site Commissioning Managers and support their development.
  • Develop commissioning scope and review subcontractor scopes for commissioning requirements.
  • Train site teams and trade partners in CxAlloy; prepare and maintain commissioning plans.
  • Manage commissioning databases and set up databases for multiple projects.
  • Lead onsite commissioning meetings and coordinate startup/test reports and spare parts lists.
  • Ensure commissioning activities align with project specs and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with trade partners to obtain reports and ensure proper documentation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CxAlloy and a working knowledge of scheduling applications.
  • The ability and willingness to travel 100% of the time.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Project Manager or Commissioning Manager on construction projects.
  • Experience managing multiple disciplines throughout the commissioning process is preferred.
  • Previous experience setting up at least two CxAlloy commissioning databases covering multiple disciplines.
  • Experience assisting with and maintaining written commissioning plans on at least two projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a general knowledge of all building trades, with specific knowledge of either mechanical, piping, or electrical disciplines.
  • Oversee Commissioning Specialists and Assistant Site Commissioning Managers while supporting their training and professional development.
  • Assist with the development of commissioning scope.
  • Review subcontractor scopes of work to ensure commissioning requirements are included and suitable for the project.
  • Assist with training site teams and trade partners in the use of the CxAlloy commissioning database.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of commissioning plans.
  • Manage the commissioning database for assigned projects.
  • Assist with the initial development and setup of commissioning databases.
  • Set up commissioning checklists and manage user access permissions.
  • Develop systems lists, room lists, and equipment lists using design documentation.
  • Import relevant submittal information into the commissioning database.
  • Perform audits on project sites to assess the performance and progress of commissioning activities.
  • Generate commissioning status reports for each discipline and provide feedback to site teams and trade partners regarding deficiencies.
  • Oversee commissioning activities and the installation of equipment and systems on site.
  • Ensure systems and equipment are operating in accordance with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Execute and manage commissioning checklists and maintain accurate equipment status within the commissioning database.
  • Coordinate with trade partners to obtain startup reports, test reports, IOMs, and spare parts lists.
  • Lead onsite commissioning meetings with site teams and trade partners.
  • Work with the site team to support the development of commissioning schedules.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and lead discussions regarding commissioning roles and responsibilities.
  • Verify onsite equipment deliveries, inspect equipment for damage, and ensure receiving checklists are completed.
  • Carry out other duties as required.
  • Rotation: Preferred 10 days on / 4 days off schedule
  • Vehicle: Vehicle allowance or company-provided vehicle, including fuel card
  • Bonuses: Annual performance bonuses, plus additional stipends for qualifying mega-project assignments

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This role requires the ability to work in both office and construction site environments.

The successful candidate will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, use their hands, and communicate effectively with others. The role may occasionally require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds may also be required.

While working onsite, the individual may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions. The role may also involve occasional exposure to heights, fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and vibration.

The working environment may range from moderate to loud noise levels. Overtime may be required depending on project requirements.
