Job summary

FST Technical Services Commissioning (Cx) division is seeking a Commissioning Field Engineer to deliver commissioning services for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The role requires in-field testing, reports, and collaboration with site teams.

The position involves travel to multiple job sites within the assigned region, completing office tasks, time/expense management, and participation in safety and training programs. A related engineering degree or equivalent is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in HVACR, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or an Associate’s degree with relevant experience
• Hands-on knowledge of equipment such as pumps, fans, motors, ventilation, chillers, boilers, steam distribution, and building automation systems
• Experience with reading construction drawings, specs, and bid processes
• Strong problem-solving ability and teamwork mindset
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to travel to multiple job sites within the assigned region
• Physically capable of lifting 30 pounds and climbing ladders

Responsibilities

• Deliver and execute professional services tasks for mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems
• Complete office assignments, track time/expenses, and prepare field observation reports
• Perform in-field validation, functional testing, and on-site/factory witness testing
• Manage tasks within time budgets and contribute to safety/training programs
• Travel to and from various job sites as required

FST Technical Services Commissioning (Cx) division is one of the leading Cx firms in the country. We partner with clients for quality assurance in the design, construction, and post-acceptance phases of building projects. We ensure that equipment in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems are designed, installed, and functionally tested to meet the clients requirements and design intent.

The Commissioning Field Engineer is a partnership position with TMG and FST Technical Services.

Functions

• A Commissioning Field Engineer reports to a Team Leader and is responsible for the delivery and execution of our professional services tasks for equipment in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems
• Primary activities include completing office assignments, time and expense management, in-field installation validation, field observation reports, functional performance testing, meeting attendance and documentation, and on-site and factory witness testing
• Additional activities include executing target billable hours, managing tasks within time budgeted, and participating in the company-wide safety and training programs
• Candidate must be able to travel to and from various job sites within the assigned region

Requirements

• Completed a Bachelor’s degree in HVACR, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management OR an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology OR related trade school, construction, maintenance, or engineering controls experience
• Previous employment in a staff or intern position related to maintenance, construction, or engineering controls
• Hands-on knowledge of equipment including pumps, fans, motors, air ventilation, chillers, boilers, steam distribution, heat absorption, building automation systems, optimization techniques, electrical distribution, and fire alarm systems
• Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and bid process
• Aptitude to solve problems independently and in a team environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Adaptability to varying indoor and outdoor working conditions
• Physical fitness, capability to lift at least 30 pounds, and ability to climb ladders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade Association involvement
• EIT or similar certification from experience
• OSHA 10 or other safe workplace certifications
• Public speaking and presentation skills

Salary range dependent on experience: $70,000 - $80,00
