Job summary

Kiewit is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer Intern to support the project team from estimating through startup. You will participate in project meetings, draft procedures, and assist onsite with commissioning milestones while coordinating with SMEs for specialized technologies.

Expect travel and rotations between field and office as required. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on involvement in electrical equipment testing, energization planning, and startup activities

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Design Review for Power, Power Delivery, and Renewable Projects.
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests for Electrical Equipment (MV, LV Switchgears, Transformers, Relay Panels).
• Develop Electrical Initial Energization Procedures (Switchyard, Back-feed, Switchgears, Initial Synch).
• Travel to project site for short durations to carry out audits and assist energization efforts.
• Collaborate with project start-up teams on onsite activities as needed.
• Familiarity with testing and commissioning of 220KV/345KV breakers, generators, MV/LV switchgear, MCCs.

Position Overview

The Commissioning Engineer Intern represents electrical commissioning for the project team from the estimating process all the way to project completion. The Commissioning Engineer Intern will participate in various project meetings to engage with the project team and perform electrical commissioning reviews during estimating, engineering, procurement, and construction phases. Further, the role will require supporting the onsite project commissioning team by drafting procedures and assisting onsite with major milestones in commissioning and project startup. It is understood that the Commissioning Engineer Intern, while they may be conversant with the process, will not likely be considered an SME in all process technologies and disciplines. For this reason, the engineer will act as a conduit to CSU Technical Services Managers (or delegated Advisors) who are SMEs in the particular technology, or discipline, to assist with the commissioning process whenever required. Deliverables may include equipment commissioning checklists, commissioning procedures, electrical testing specifications, start-up philosophies, and presentation material.

Location

Although headquartered in Lenexa, KS, our Power districts have projects that span across the entire US. Our projects may be built in large cities, small towns, or very remote locations, so our people must be willing to go where the work is. Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start date. Commissioning engineers may do rotations between the field and office work. Candidate must be open to traveling and relocating as business requires.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Design Review for Power, Power Delivery, and Renewable Projects

• Familiarity with component testing and commissioning aspects of following major electrical equipment & protection scheme will be an added advantage:

• MV & LV Switchgears and MCCs
• CTs, PTs, CVTs, and one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control & protection schematics

Qualifications

• Actively pursing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred.
