Job summary

RLI Insurance Company seeks an experienced underwriter for a profitable book of commercial trucking business. You will evaluate complex accounts, apply sound underwriting judgment, and build strong relationships with agents and brokers to grow submissions and profitability.

The role balances growth with underwriting discipline, offering a base salary and comprehensive total rewards. Hybrid work arrangements are available and travel may be involved as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in insurance, finance, risk management, business or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of commercial trucking transportation underwriting experience.
• Experience underwriting fleet or other complex commercial auto risks preferred.
• Experience developing producer relationships and managing a profitable book of business preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, evaluate, accept, decline, rate, quote, and bind complex new and renewal commercial transportation accounts within assigned underwriting authority.
• Evaluate trucking operations, loss experience, driver and fleet characteristics, safety practices, financial information, and other exposures to determine risk acceptability and pricing.
• Develop and maintain relationships with agents and brokers to generate submission flow and profitable business.
• Manage an assigned book of business with accountability for growth, profitability, and portfolio performance.
• Review submissions, loss experience, pricing models, and underwriting information to identify profitable opportunities.
• Negotiate pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions with agents while maintaining underwriting discipline and product appetite.
• Monitor account performance and adjust strategies to changes in loss trends and market conditions.
• Maintain organized underwriting files with documentation supporting risk selection and pricing decisions.
