Job summary

D. Clugston, Inc. is seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial construction projects from mobilization through final completion.

The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring every project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards. This role partners with Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and Trade Partners to proactively resolve issues and maintain strong client relationships

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Commercial Superintendent.
  • Proven success managing commercial construction projects from groundbreaking through completion.
  • Strong understanding of commercial building systems, construction methods, sequencing, and building codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple subcontractors while maintaining schedule and quality.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and construction scheduling software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day field operations from project mobilization through final completion.
  • Direct and supervise subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel.
  • Maintain a professional, organized, and productive job site.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive safety culture.
  • Coordinate all field activities to ensure efficient workflow and minimal project disruptions.
  • Maintain an uncompromising commitment to job site safety.
  • Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety observations and weekly toolbox talks.
  • Coordinate safety inspections and promptly address deficiencies.
  • Ensure all subcontractors comply with project-specific safety requirements.
  • Maintain complete safety documentation and incident reporting.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and long-term construction schedules.
  • Coordinate subcontractor sequencing and workforce planning.
  • Monitor project progress and identify schedule impacts before they become delays.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, inspections, and testing.
  • Implement recovery plans when schedule challenges arise.
  • Assist the Project Manager in maintaining overall project milestones.
  • Ensure all work complies with project plans, specifications, building codes, and company quality standards.
  • Perform routine quality inspections throughout construction.
  • Coordinate mock-ups, testing, and quality verification procedures.
  • Identify deficiencies early and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Complete punch list activities and verify all work before owner inspections.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Conduct owner, architect, and consultant jobsite meetings.
  • Maintain proactive communication with the Project Manager regarding schedule, budget, and field conditions.
  • Coordinate RFIs, ASIs, change orders, and field directives.
  • Document project progress through daily reports, photographs, and meeting minutes.
  • Build positive relationships with owners, design professionals, inspectors, and trade partners.
  • Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, laydown areas, temporary facilities, and access control.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards that reflect company professionalism.
  • Protect completed work and adjacent property.
  • Manage weather preparation, security, and project startup/shutdown procedures.
  • Ensure permits, inspections, and utility coordination remain on schedule.
  • Lead all punch list activities.
  • Coordinate final inspections and certificate of occupancy requirements.
  • Verify completion of all subcontractor work.
  • Ensure warranties, closeout documents, operation manuals, and as-built documentation are complete.
  • Assist with owner training and project turnover.

This position serves as the primary field leader and is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, managing site logistics, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety standards, and delivering exceptional workmanship. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and Trade Partners to proactively resolve issues and maintain strong client relationships throughout construction.

Field Leadership
