KLOVER is a commercial carpentry subcontractor and manufacturer of prefabricated wall panel systems, based near Quakertown, PA. The Commercial Structural Joist Technician installs structural flooring systems and related products, reads blueprints, and may weld.

OSHA PPE and safety practices are emphasized; welding certification maintenance is tracked by supervision. Candidates should have a HS diploma or GED and some trade education, with 1+ year experience in joist, metal deck, or structural

• Participation in a secondary or post-secondary trade curriculum.
• 1+ year experience with floor joist, metal deck, or structural steel installation.
• Knowledge of construction safety devices and PPE.
• 1+ year experience with stick welding with relevant certifications preferred.
• Rigging and signaling experience a plus.
• Basic carpentry knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
• Assist foreman with layout and positioning of components.
• Fabricate/alter parts using grinders, saws, hammers, and drills.
• Join materials with PAFs, nails, screws, or adhesives.
• Ensure level and alignment using levels, plumbs, and lasers.
• Perform welds as needed for joists or decking (optional).
• Work at heights and operate rigging/hoisting equipment.
• Maintain safe work area and comply with PPE requirements.

WORKSITES: 70 MILE RADIUS OF QUAKERTOWN (Tri-State Area, PA)

General Summary Of Position

The Commercial Structural Joist Technician exists to install a variety of structural flooring systems including Comslab, EcoSpan, Hambro and traditional metal decking; structural steel and other products offered as add-ons to Klover Wall Panel Systems. This position must be familiar with the tools of the trade and can read, follow, and understand blueprints, drawings, and work orders. Ability to weld is a plus, but not always necessary for this role. Reference qualifications section III.

Essential (Core Competencies) Duties

• Accurately measure and read height, width, length, and other proportions with a tape measure
• Assist foreman with proper layout for work to be put in place
• Fabricate or alter parts using grinders, sawzalls, shears, hammers, punches, or drills
• Join materials with PAFs, nails, screws, staples, or adhesives
• Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers to ensure everything is level and secure
• Check work along the way to ensure it meets specification and quality standards
• Install/use rigging and hoisting equipment
• Install flooring systems according to specifications and building codes
• Maneuver units into position for installation, and anchor the units
• Perform welds using stick processes for joists or deck in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions (optional)
• Work at heights with several elevated platforms
• Keep work area clean and productive
• Always exercise the proper use of PPE
• Set up and safely use company equipment
• Maintain welding certification through maintenance logs and supervisor observation

Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Participation in a secondary or post-secondary trade curriculum
• 1+ year experience with floor joist, metal deck, or structural steel installation
• Knowledge and understanding of construction safety devices and PPE
• 1+ year experience with stick welding. Current AWS D1.1 SMAW 3G and AWS D1.1 SMAW 4G certifications, AWS D1.5 SMAW 3G and 4G are preferred (optional)
• Rigging and Signaling experience is a plus
• Basic carpentry knowledge

Work Environment

Panel installers work indoors and outdoors on many types of construction projects, with varying degrees of exposure to the elements. This may include extreme heat (>85 degrees for longer than one hour of exposure), extreme cold (<32 degrees for longer than one hour of exposure), excessive humidity and noise. Some hazards may be present such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, toxic/caustic chemicals, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces.

Physical Requirements:

• Due to the physical nature of the position, employee must have full dexterity of their hands and arms
• Lift up to 50 pounds independently
• Stand for long periods of time
• Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls

• Bend or twist their body
• Repeat the same movements
• Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
• Employee must be able to see objects close and far away
• At times, multiple sounds can be heard as employee is working on job, employee must have the ability to focus on the sound in particular that is associated with the task they are completing. Employees with any sort of hearing impairment would not be considered fit for duty to perform this position
• Due to the safety sensitive nature of the position, at all times, employee must be fit for duty and not report to work under the influence of a mind altering or performance altering substance. At no time, should employee be found to be possessing or using a mind or performance altering substance while performing any Company task
