Marathon Petroleum Company LP’s Commercial Risk team seeks an analyst to measure and report market risk related to trading and hedging, provide financial analysis, and support daily trading performance.
You will work with traders and schedulers, expand knowledge of oil markets, pricing, and how instruments are used to hedge, grow in MtM methodologies, and have opportunities to join commercial teams.

The Commercial Risk team supports Marathon’s Supply and Trading functions. The team adds value by measuring and reporting market risk as it relates to commercial trading and hedging activity and by performing financial analysis and reporting. The role is critical to understanding daily trading performance and ensuring the organization derives value from its supply and trading operations using deep financial analysis skills combined with strong commercial acumen. The team ensures financial results align with market conditions, providing independent oversight of trading performance and ensuring activities remain within defined boundaries set by the company.
An opportunity for an analyst in this team is now available. Working with the trading team, you will be assigned a portfolio of supply and trading activity and will engage with a front office team that includes traders and schedulers. As part of the team, you will expand your understanding of the oil energy markets, how various oil commodities are priced, and how purchase and sale transactions and related transportation costs impact the associated trade. You will also develop a deeper appreciation for how financial instruments are used to hedge and minimize the risks associated with the physical side of the transactions. You will gain a better understanding of price exposure, Marked to Market (MtM) methodologies and how they apply to the oil energy markets.
