Job description

Overview

The role focuses on developing new business through sales efforts in a SouthState metropolitan market. Responsibilities include managing a high‑level loan and deposit portfolio, analyzing financial information to assess creditworthiness, compiling accurate loan packages, selling and cross‑selling additional bank products, and ensuring all loans comply with State and Federal regulations as well as bank policies. Success is measured by calling activity, proposal generation, revenue and risk mitigation, and building strong internal and external relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in a business development plan to increase the commercial loan and deposit portfolio within a SouthState metro market.
  • Develop consultative relationships with prospects and clients to deliver appropriate banking solutions.
  • Manage the flow of loan and deposit requests through appropriate channels, ensuring credit quality, responsiveness, structure and pricing meet client needs and bank operating objectives.
  • Collaborate effectively with Treasury Management, Sales Officers, Capital Markets, Wealth and Retail teams.
  • Underwrite loan requests within the parameters of the bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure loan packages are accurate and complete when submitted for credit partner approval.
  • Manage and service the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Maintain all required documentation for loans and deposits.
  • Address documentation or compliance deficiencies noted by Loan and Deposit Operations or other reviews.
  • Partner with Credit to properly risk grade each loan and adjust risk grades as circumstances change or new information becomes available.
  • Price each loan and deposit product according to current bank pricing guidelines.
  • Document credit quality, competitive factors or relationship circumstances that justify departures from approved bank pricing regulations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fair lending practices.
  • Stay knowledgeable of all laws and regulations governing lending activities of financial institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable bank policies and procedures, and State and Federal regulations.
  • Resolve client problems and assist with general inquiries.
  • Provide superior service to existing clients.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with COIs and community members to enhance the bank’s image and reputation.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, banking, or a related field is required.
    • Graduation from a recognized school of banking is an asset.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5–10 years of commercial lending experience, including loan structuring and credit analysis responsibilities.
  • Knowledge:
    • Extensive knowledge of all bank products, services, procedures and practices.
    • In‑depth knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations and bank lending policies.
    • Strong familiarity with the local business community is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Well‑developed sales, interpersonal, and negotiating skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Basic accounting and credit skills.
    • Detail oriented with proven ability to prioritize complex work assignments.
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate creditworthiness.
    • Proficiency with basic office equipment, calculator, and computer.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Training Requirements
  • Required annual compliance training.
  • New Employee Orientation.
Physical Demands

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer, which can be performed sitting or standing with use of the right desk.

Work Environment

The position is located in a private office within a cooled and heated facility, with access to a break room or restroom during breaks.

Travel

Some travel may be required from time to time.
