Job summary

ContourGlobal is seeking a Commercial Analytics Associate in Houston, TX (Hybrid) to build and lead analytics for energy trading, risk, and portfolio optimization. You will join a U.S.

analytics team, developing data pipelines and quantitative models to drive commercial decisions and asset performance. You will collaborate with asset management, M&A, and business development, delivering insight-driven recommendations and scalable processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in a quantitative or business field preferred.
  • 5+ years in commercial analytics, quantitative modeling, or data architecture in energy/utilities/commodity trading.
  • Experience with U.S. power, gas, REC markets and market changes.
  • Expertise in programming and data manipulation (R, Python, SQL, MATLAB) and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience with power optimization and/or risk software (Promod, Plexos, cQuant).
  • Familiar with risk metrics like VaR and GMaR.
  • Strong time-series forecasting, optimization, or machine learning background.
  • Exposure to energy modeling, trading, and risk management platforms and integration with ops decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver insight-driven recommendations to support trading, origination, and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate across Asset Management, M&A, and Business Development to embed analytics into workflows.
  • Assist in managing consultants and evaluating scenario inputs and results.
  • Develop advanced models for forecasting, pricing, risk management, and asset optimization.
  • Establish scalable analytics processes, tools, and governance for real-time and long-term decisions.
  • Model BESS, solar, gas resources, and the regional portfolio.
  • Support structuring of PPAs, fuel procurement strategies, and market bidding decisions.
  • Build and maintain data architecture integrating market, asset, trading, and financial data.
  • Develop automated pipelines and storage solutions for large-scale energy data.
  • Ensure data quality and accessibility across the org.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to enhance portfolio visibility.

Commercial Analytics Associate – Houston, TX (Hybrid)

ContourGlobal, a KKR company, is an established Independent Power Producer focused on developing, acquiring, and operating electricity generation and storage assets worldwide.

Job Summary

As Commercial Analytics Associate, you will join our U.S. Commercial Analytics team, reporting to the Director Commercial Analytics. You will help design, implement, and manage the company's commercial analytics function in the U.S., building data infrastructure and quantitative modeling tools to optimize energy trading, manage portfolio risk, and generate asset-level insights. Key Responsibilities
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions
    • Deliver insight-driven recommendations to support trading, origination, and risk mitigation.
    • Collaborate across Asset Management, M&A, and Business Development teams to embed analytics into key commercial workflows.
    • Assist in managing consultants and advisors with the evaluation of scenario inputs and results.
  • Develop Quantitative Models
    • Support development of advanced models for forecasting, pricing, risk management, and asset optimization.
    • Assist in establishing scalable analytics processes, tools, and governance frameworks to support real-time and long-term commercial decision-making.
    • Model BESS, solar, gas-generating resources, and the overall regional portfolio.
    • Support structuring of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), fuel procurement strategies, and market bidding decisions.
  • Design & Manage Data Infrastructure and Analytics Function
    • Build and maintain a robust data architecture that integrates market, asset, trading, and financial data.
    • Develop automated pipelines and storage solutions to support large-scale, real-time energy data.
    • Ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the commercial organization.
    • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to enhance visibility into portfolio and asset performance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial analytics, quantitative modeling, or data architecture within the energy, utilities, or commodity trading sectors.
  • Familiarity with U.S. power, gas, REC markets and evolving market changes.
  • Understanding operations and modeling for renewable (solar and BESS) and gas-fired technologies.
  • Expertise in programming and data manipulation (R, Python, SQL, MATLAB, or similar) and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for power applications.
  • Experience with power optimization and/or risk software (Promod, Plexos, cQuant, or similar).
  • Familiar with power portfolio risk metrics including GMaR, VaR and other related metrics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in a quantitative or business field preferred.
  • Strong background in time-series forecasting, optimization, or machine learning.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling, trading, and risk management platforms and their integration with commercial operations and investment decisions.
  • Experience building dashboards and reports; strong skills for scenario modeling and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Exposure to big data environments and modern data warehousing tools is a plus.
  • Expertise in scalable data infrastructure, including data pipelines, storage, cloud platforms, and governance frameworks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of thermal or renewable power generation cycles.
  • Experience troubleshooting or knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC, Modbus).
  • Relocation assistance may be provided for the selected candidate.
