Position Summary:

Catalent’s Baltimore/Harmans, MD (BWI) site is a leading facility supporting advanced therapeutic development and manufacturing, with capabilities spanning early development through clinical and commercial production. The site works with a range of biotech and pharmaceutical partners across advanced biologics and complex therapies. With modern technologies and a collaborative, cross-functional environment, it offers opportunities across scientific, operational, and business teams within a growing area of the industry.

The Commercial Planning Specialist is responsible for supporting operational and commercial forecasting, revenue analysis, and financial insights to drive data-informed decision-making across the business. This is a crucial, internally focused role that partners closely with commercial, operations, finance, and site leadership to build robust forecasts, validate pipeline assumptions, and track financial mechanics (from signed contracts to recognized revenue).

The Role:
  • Forecast & Revenue Planning: Build, maintain, and manage operational and commercial forecasts; consolidate data into meaningful projections for leadership.
  • Assumption Validation: Partner with Sales and Commercial teams to understand pipeline assumptions, challenge overly optimistic inputs, and identify business risks and opportunities.
  • Financial Alignment: Ensure clear alignment between signed contracts, invoicing schedules, and revenue recognition timing in coordination with Finance.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Act as a key coordinator across internal stakeholders—including Commercial/Sales, Site Leadership, Operations, Finance, and Program Management—to collect information and align business inputs.
  • Data & Reporting: Consolidate and interpret data sets to develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools that support strategic decision-making.
  • Support S&OP: Assist with demand planning and resource forecasting as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Analytics & Forecasting Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience in business analytics, financial planning, commercial operations, or revenue forecasting.
  • Financial & Commercial Acumen: Clear understanding of revenue mechanics (specifically distinguishing between signed contracts, invoiced revenue, and recognized revenue) and pipeline analysis.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Proven ability to build strong internal working relationships with cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Operations, Finance, and Leadership) to collect inputs and align on business performance.
  • Critical Thinking & Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to evaluate data credibility, ask probing questions, and constructively challenge optimistic or unrealistic forecast assumptions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry Exposure: Experience or background exposure working within life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMO).
  • Demand & Resource Planning: Exposure to Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), demand planning, or operational capacity alignment.
  • Business Operations: Prior exposure to commercial operations, financial analysis, or business planning environments.
Technical Requirements
  • Excel: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., advanced formulas, financial/forecasting modeling, data consolidation, pivot tables).
  • Data Visualization & Analytics Tools: Working knowledge or experience with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is preferred.
  • Reporting Platforms: Experience with collaborative reporting tools or platforms (e.g., SharePoint) is a plus.
