Utica National Insurance Group is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to support the CoreAdvantage unit. The role blends technical underwriting with agency relationship management to evaluate risk, manage a profitable portfolio, and drive growth.

The candidate should have 4–7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience, with a strong grasp of coverages, forms, rating, and underwriting principles. A bachelor’s degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal commercial lines business within established underwriting authority.
• Analyze applications, loss history, claims data, inspection reports, and other underwriting information to determine risk acceptability.
• Make sound underwriting and pricing decisions that support profitable growth.
• Review and process endorsements, coverage changes, and policy modifications.
• Build strong relationships with agency partners through proactive communication, responsiveness, and underwriting expertise.
• Generate new business opportunities through agency outreach and relationship development.
• Monitor agency performance, premium volume, and loss ratio results.
• Review claims experience and underwriting trends to support renewal and pricing decisions.
• Communicate coverage options, underwriting requirements, pricing rationale, and risk appetite to agents and internal business partners.
• Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines, forms, coverages, classifications, rating plans, and market developments.
• Utilize data and underwriting analytics to support business decisions and portfolio management.
• Achieve performance goals related to premium growth, profitability, agency engagement, and service excellence.

Compensation

• Executive Commercial Lines Underwriter $90,000 - $154,000
• Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter $73,500 - $111,000
• Commercial Lines Underwriter $57,000 - $90,000

Candidates may be considered for the Executive Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, or Underwriter level based on experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications

This position is eligible for participation in the Company's Variable Compensation Bonus Plan.

Final compensation will be based on experience, education, certifications, geographic location, scope of responsibilities, and overall qualifications.
