U.S. Engineering Service in Wichita, KS is seeking a Commercial HVAC Service Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize a wide range of commercial heating and cooling systems.

Responsibilities include servicing equipment such as forced air and hydronic systems, split systems, make-up air and exhaust, and related controls. You will support new equipment installations, start-ups, and field projects, while collaborating with engineers, owners’ representatives, and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of service experience in commercial and industrial HVAC.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to register with the local union, if required.
  • Experience with chillers and boilers preferred.
  • UA Apprenticeship Program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with customers through professional communication and technical expertise.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC systems including air conditioning, heating, and controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, site surveys, equipment replacements, and system modifications as requested.
  • Provide system start-ups, commissioning support, and troubleshooting for various systems.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, suppliers, contractors, and fellow technicians to ensure safe, compliant work.

Job description

As a Commercial HVAC Service Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing a wide range of commercial heating and cooling systems. Responsibilities include servicing and cleaning equipment such as forced air and hydronic systems, split systems, package units, make-up air and exhaust systems, and associated controls. You will also support new equipment installations and start-ups, including pump alignment, VFDs, chillers, boilers, air handling units, and other HVAC-related systems. This role is ideal for a skilled technician who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges and working with diverse commercial HVAC equipment.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers through professional communication, reliable service, and technical expertise.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineers, owners’ representatives, and internal teams during commissioning activities while representing and protecting the Company’s interests.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, site surveys, equipment replacements, and system modifications as needed or requested by customers.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, multi-zone systems, controls, humidity control, and temperature control systems.
  • Inspect and repair electrical and mechanical components of HVAC equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
  • Provide system start-ups, commissioning support, and troubleshooting for a variety of commercial HVAC systems.
  • Meet with customers to assess system performance, evaluate service needs, and provide professional recommendations.
  • Repair or replace defective components and ensure equipment is restored to proper operating condition.
  • Prepare for on-site installations and repairs by reviewing building layouts, identifying potential challenges, gathering materials, and coordinating work as needed.
  • Assist with new construction installations of HVAC equipment, piping, and related systems.
  • Apply local HVAC codes and industry standards in a practical and professional manner on every job.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, suppliers, contractors, and fellow technicians to ensure work is completed correctly, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of manufacturer products, including installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair requirements.
  • Complete required documentation for each job, including service reports, work orders, and customer records.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment by following service schedules, keeping accurate records, and ensuring readiness for daily work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of service experience in commercial and industrial HVAC.
  • Willingness to register with the local union, if required.
  • Experience with chillers and boilers preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and system operation.
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity, electrical systems, and HVAC control systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver high-quality service to customers.
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Successful completion of a UA Apprenticeship Program preferred.
  • Chiller experience is a plus.
Physical and Travel Requirements
  • Must have the physical stamina required to perform HVAC service work, including extended periods of overhead work.
  • Must be able to work extended hours or longer workdays as business needs require.
  • Must follow safe work practices to prevent injury, including proper lifting techniques, ladder safety, and use of assistance when needed.
  • Must be able to safely operate powered construction tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening at any time during employment.
