Qualifications

• 7+ years of commercial construction experience.
• 3+ years as Superintendent running projects independently.
• Experience managing multiple projects or traveling across a region preferred.
• Building envelope experience (roofing, cladding, glazing, waterproofing) a plus.
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification required; EM385-1-1, 24-Hour Fall Protection, and rigging/signaling/equipment operation certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Run multiple regional projects independently guiding foremen and crews.
• Conduct jobsite walks, verify workmanship, and ensure safety/compliance.
• Lead pre-construction meetings and coordinate with PMs, owners, GCs, and trades.
• Plan materials, equipment, subcontractors, and manpower to prevent delays.
• Manage change orders and cost impacts to protect schedule and budget.
• Submit weekly progress, safety, quality, and billing reports.
• Perform final inspections, manage punch lists, and build strong customer relationships.

Job Title: Commercial Construction Superintendent Job Type: Full Time Start Date: Immediately Salary Range: $120,000–$140,000/Year DOE

Position Overview J.R. & Co., Inc. is looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent based out of Cedar Rapids, IA to run commercial projects across Iowa and the surrounding region. You’ll independently manage multiple jobsites, leading Foremen, crews, and subcontractors to deliver projects safely, on time, and under budget. This role is ideal for a proven field leader who takes full ownership of their projects, holds themselves and their teams accountable, and is ready to help build our regional presence.

Essential Functions

• Independently run multiple concurrent regional projects, leading Foremen, field crews, and subcontractors to meet quality, productivity, and safety standards
• Travel between active projects to conduct jobsite walks and inspections, verifying workmanship, code compliance, and OSHA compliance
• Lead pre-construction meetings and coordinate with Project Managers, owners, general contractors, and other trades
• Plan and allocate materials, equipment, subcontractors, and manpower across projects to prevent delays and keep crews productive
• Enforce safety standards, address hazards immediately, and stop work when necessary
• Proactively identify and resolve jobsite issues, including change orders and cost impacts, to protect schedule and budget
• Track progress on all assigned projects, report completion percentages for billing, and submit weekly reports on progress, safety, quality, and impacts
• Perform final quality inspections, manage punch lists, and build strong relationships with customers to support repeat work

Required Skills and Abilities

• OSHA 30-Hour Certification required; EM385-1-1, 24-Hour Fall Protection, and rigging/signaling/equipment operation certifications preferred
• Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods, sequencing, and multi-trade coordination
• Proven ability to run multiple projects at once across different locations with minimal supervision
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues early and resolve them quickly before they impact safety, schedule, or budget
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural plans, shop drawings, and specifications
• Solid understanding of project schedules, budgets, and change order processes
• Proven ability to lead Foremen, crews, and subcontractors with sound decision-making and a high level of accountability
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in scheduling and project management tools (Procore, MS Project, or similar) a plus

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED; degree in Construction Management or related field a plus
• 7+ years of commercial construction experience
• 3+ years of experience as a Superintendent running projects independently
• Experience managing multiple projects or traveling across a region preferred
• Building envelope experience (roofing, cladding, glazing, waterproofing) a plus

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Pass initial drug test and participate in random drug test program
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
• Some indoor office environments (approximately 20% office)
• Primarily outdoor environments in all types of weather (approximately 80% fieldwork)
• Ability to perform elevated work (rooftops, heights)
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs or greater, with frequent bending, kneeling, and walking
• Extended hours and weekend work as needed
