Job summary

ColdTech Refrigeration in Boise, ID is seeking an experienced Commercial Chiller Service Technician to diagnose, install, and repair large-scale chillers, cooling towers, hydronics, boilers, and refrigeration racks.

Ideal candidates have 4–6 years of hands-on experience, EPA Type II certification, and strong electrical, welding, and HVAC software skills, with leadership duties and direct client communication responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of hands-on commercial/industrial chiller experience
• Advanced start-up, warranty, troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across commercial chiller systems
• VRF experience is preferred
• EPA Type II Certification required; NATE & factory training on major equipment brands are highly preferred
• Deep knowledge of electrical schematics, refrigerant handling, brazing/welding, and computerized chiller/HVAC software/controls
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Responsibilities

• Diagnose large-tonnage systems and lead diagnostics, installations, and repairs of chillers, cooling towers, hydronics, boilers, and refrigeration racks
• Handle advanced diagnostics and repair of cooling towers/boilers and HVAC/refrigeration equipment
• Oversee junior technicians and provide on-the-job training while upholding safety standards
• Interact with facility managers to explain repairs, provide quotes and recommend system upgrades
• Represent ColdTech Refrigeration with professionalism and urgency on every job

What You'll Do

• A Commercial Chiller Technician diagnose large-tonnage systems, leads complex diagnostics, installations, and repairs of large-scale systems such as chillers, cooling towers, hydronics, boilers, and refrigeration rack systems
• Advanced Diagnostics & Repair: Handle cooling towers/boilers and troubleshooting heavy-duty heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration equipment.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Overseeing junior technicians, providing on-the-job training, and ensuring workplace safety standards are met.
• Client Communication: Interacting directly with facility managers to explain repairs, provide quotes, and recommend system upgrades
• Represent ColdTech with professionalism and urgency on every job

What We’re Looking For

• 4–6 years of hands-on commercial and/or industrial chiller experience along with commercial boiler, hydronics, and refrigeration rack system experience.
• Advanced start-up, warranty, troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across commercial chiller systems
• Previous VRF experience is preferred
• Current EPA Type II Certification required, NATE & factory training on major equipment brands are highly preferred.
