Summary/Purpose

The Area Manager is responsible for leading the commercial and business banking activities within an assigned geographic market. The position is accountable for the market's overall production, profitability, portfolio quality, talent development, and relationship growth objectives.

This leader drives performance through a combination of personal production and leadership of Commercial Bankers, Business Bankers, and Commercial Banking Support personnel. Responsibilities include commercial loan growth, deposit growth, treasury management revenue, fee income generation, portfolio management, credit quality, team development, and community involvement.

The Area Manager serves as the primary commercial banking leader within the assigned market and is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of the bank's commercial banking strategy while fostering a disciplined credit culture and delivering exceptional customer outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute market business plans designed to achieve commercial loan growth, deposit growth, treasurymanagementrevenue growth, fee income generation, and profitabilityobjectives.
  • Maintain a significant personal portfolio of commercial and business banking relationships while generating new business opportunities.
  • Represent the bank throughout the market through active participation in community, civic, and professional organizations.
  • Lead, coach, and hold team members accountable for commercial loan production, business banking production, deposit generation, treasury management sales, and fee income goals.
  • Establish andmonitorcalling activity standards, pipeline management expectations, relationship development goals, and overall production metrics.
  • Conduct regular production reviews and coaching sessions to ensure achievement of individual and team performance goals.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, andretainhigh-performing commercial banking professionals and support staff.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Partner with executive leadership and Human Resourcesregardingperformance management, succession planning, compensation recommendations, and organizational development and strategic planning activities.
  • Ensure effective portfolio management practices are consistently applied across all assigned commercial and business banking relationships.
  • Monitor portfolio quality through oversight of annual reviews, risk ratings, exception tracking, delinquency management, charge-offs, covenant compliance, and overall credit administration activities.
  • Collaborate with Credit Administration and executive leadership toidentifyemerging credit concerns and developappropriate riskmitigation strategies.
  • Drive treasury management penetration throughout the market by partnering with bankers and treasury management personnel toidentifyopportunities and deepen customer relationships.
  • Promote growth of noninterest income through treasury services, merchant services, referral partnerships, and other fee-generating products and services.
  • Encourage a relationship-based approach to customer management that strengthens overall wallet share and long-term client retention.
  • Exercise lending authority within established approval limits andparticipatein the approval process for larger or more complex credit relationships.
  • Support sound credit structuring, underwriting discipline, and adherence to lending policies and procedures.
  • Review and recommend risk grade changes, accrual modifications, charge-offs, and other credit actions whenappropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all bank policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards.
  • Support strategic initiatives designed to improve commercial banking performance, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accountability for the overall performance, profitability, and reputation of the commercial banking function within the assigned market.
Job Requirements
  • 7-10 years of progressive commercial lending experience, portfolio management, commercial credit analysis, underwriting, loan administration, or related banking experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial credit analysis, cash flow analysis, borrower risk assessment, loan documentation, and commercial lending requirements.
  • Demonstrated success growing commercial loans, deposits, treasury management revenue, and overall client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit, portfolio management, treasury management solutions, and commercial banking profitability drivers.
  • Ability to apply sound accounting, financial, economic, and credit principles to the review and monitoring of commercial credit risk.
  • Knowledge of Commercial Lending requirements and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound economic and accounting principles and practices to the review of credit risk.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills; and Exemplary written and oral presentation skills.
  • Experience leading and supervising Commercial and Business Bankers, credit administration, loan review, audit, or compliance functions preferred.

  • Effectively provide strong leadership with an ability to be versatile and relate to varying mindsets within a diverse group of banking professionals.
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Action oriented with a high aptitude in the areas of reasoning, critical thinking and analysis.
  • Understand and comply with all bank policy/procedures and regulatory laws and regulations.
  • Foster and promote the bank image at all times.
  • Maintains the highest standards of ethical behavior, honesty and professional excellence.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field with 10 years or more experience in the Commercial lending and branch management areas required. Advanced degree preferred.
