Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Commercial Analyst to develop cost estimates for quotations and drive pricing strategies. You will analyze market prices, plant capacity, profitability targets, and raw material trends to set competitive selling prices for assigned customers and markets.

Reporting to the Commercial Analyst Manager IPP NA, you will monitor margins, build pricing targets, and lead price-change mechanisms while applying strong data modeling and financial skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial analyst experience.
• BS degree required.
• Ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.

While reporting to the Commercial Analyst Manager IPP NA, you will be responsible for developing cost estimates to be used in the quotation / bid process by utilizing our ERP system and other approved cost models. You will also be developing pricing strategy by analyzing the following: market prices, plant capacity, plant and division profitability requirements, and raw material price trends and fluctuations. In addition, you will continually monitor and drive improvement in the following areas: business won/lost performance, variance between expected margins and actual margins, variance between quoted standards and plant standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Utilizes data, mathematical modeling, analytical skills, judgment, and decision making to develop selling prices for assigned customers and markets or for new customer/product prospects.
• It’s expected that the Analyst will take a leadership role in applying division profit objectives, identifying profit improvement opportunities, and developing pricing targets that align with market strategies.
• Uses knowledge to maximize division profitability through analysis, good judgment, and decision‑making skills.
• Provides oversight and takes a leadership role in the design and execution of customer price change mechanisms. Analyst should remain current on raw material cost movement and changes in manufacturing costs to effectively use these mechanisms to adjust selling prices.
• Identify and implement margin Improvement Initiatives. Develops and maintains key customer relationships.
• Performs ad hoc analysis for division management as needed. Adheres to the highest degree of business ethics, sound business operating philosophy, cost accounting principles, and all company policies and procedures.

This position can be located in Hartsville, SC or Charlotte, NC.

• 3+ years of commercial analyst experience
• BS degree
• Ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
• Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
• Strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail are necessary.
• Understanding of P&L basics.
• Good organizational skills specifically around the management, analysis, and processing of large amounts of data to arrive at desired outputs.
• The candidate should have a proven ability to deliver efficient, high‑quality performance in a pricing and mathematical modeling environment.
• Multi‑tasking, strong collaboration, and team leadership skills – with a variety of projects ongoing at once.
• Self‑motivated.
• Knowledge of Optivision ERP and Price FX would be considered an advantage.

Compensation

Commercial Analyst: The annual base salary range for this role is from $52,000 to $58,500.

Commercial Analyst II: The annual base salary range for this role is from $67,760 to $76,230.

Commercial Analyst III: The annual base salary range for this role is from $88,000 to $99,000.

Commercial Analyst IV: The annual base salary range for this role is from $107,760 to $121,230, plus annual target bonus of 7.5% of base salary.

Senior Commercial Analyst: The annual base salary range for this role is from $122,320 to $137,610, plus annual target bonus of 7.5% of base salary.

This is a progression position and level will be based on candidate experience and business needs.
