Job summary

Ethos Energy in Wallingford, CT seeks an Operation and Maintenance Technician, Control Room Operator to operate and maintain a simple cycle power facility. You will read meters, calibrate systems, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment.

The role requires performing maintenance, keeping CMMS updated, and supporting safety and environmental compliance. A 12-hour rotating shift is required, with opportunities for training and advancement.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two‑year college to technical school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a simple cycle generating facility and all associated auxiliary and support equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
  • This position requires making operating decisions based on plant procedures, safety and environmental rules, regulation, policies, and procedures, and using good judgment based on operating data.
  • Read, understand and comply with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs.
  • Follow all plant environmental permits.
  • Operate demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.
  • Perform inspection of watch on each system within the plant.
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges.
  • Clean, replace, oil, and lubricate other component parts and equipment as required.
  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels, water chemistry to verify operating conditions.
  • Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility, including painting projects as required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and control room.
  • Perform capital projects and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.
  • Coordinate purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely repair of plant equipment.
  • Identify and resolve CEMS problems. Assist in calibrations and gas bottle change‑outs.
  • Keep O&M Manager and/or LOMT fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on‑shift.
  • Utilize the facility's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Work with the O&M Manager in managing the plant's inventory, performing audits as needed.
  • Be responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
  • Participate in outage planning and scheduling.
  • Assist with development of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with administering the Operator training program.
  • Assist with performing root cause analysis of failures.
  • Assist with management of change.
  • May operate heavy equipment such as man lifts and forklifts.
  • Perform water chemistry analysis as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Operate the demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures and monitor demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limits.

Job Overview

Ethos Energy is currently recruiting for an Operation and Maintenance Technician, Control Room Operator to be based in Wallingford, CT. The power plant has 7 GE LM 6000 combustion turbines in simple cycle formation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned on shift. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, the gas turbine, generators, air compressors, demineralizer trailers, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, and all other balance‑of‑plant auxiliary equipment. The candidate must strictly adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees, contractors, and public safety.

Required Skills / Knowledge
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, written records.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word. PI experience, building trends and interpreting them is desired.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one‑lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Will write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks and needs, and train other personnel.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective plant equipment and parts such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.
  • Proficient at Water Chemistry.
  • Capable of operating various power tools.
Experience
  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, reach, climb, and lift (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be willing to work a 12‑hour rotating shift and be available to work for call‑ins and work overload as needed.

The base hourly range for this position is: $54.20 - $81.30. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401(k), and flexible spending accounts.
