Job summary

Belcan Corporation is seeking a Combustion Systems-Staff Analyst in a San Francisco hybrid role. You will own combustor dynamics, run simulations, and collaborate with Responsible Engineers to translate physical phenomena into design insights.

The role requires 6–8 years in combustion dynamics or an advanced degree with relevant experience, strong Python/Matlab skills, and hands-on diagnostic capability. Expect a contract-to-hire path and a focus on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; Master’s or PhD strongly preferred.
• 6–8 years of combustion dynamics / thermoacoustics in gas turbines or relevant PhD plus ~3 years.
• Experience with thermoacoustics, CFD (LES), acoustic-network modeling, and diagnostic methods.

Responsibilities

• Interface with Responsible Engineers to provide inputs and clarify physical phenomena.
• Prepare, run, and post-process simulation models (FEA, CFD, Heat Transfer).
• Analyze test data with REs to qualify hardware and maintain fleet reliability.
• Develop reduced-order models to simplify Parallax analysis stack.

Scope & Ownership

Owns combustor dynamics: thermoacoustic instability prediction and mitigation, flame dynamics, and acoustic-flame coupling. May be the same person as the Combustion Systems Engineer for a standout hire.

Responsibilities

• Interface with Responsible Engineers to provide inputs for design, generate predictions for candidate designs, and ensure that REs have a clear understanding of the physical phenomena they are dealing with
• Prepare, run, and post-process relevant simulation models including FEA, CFD, and Heat Transfer as applicable
• Analyze test, qualification, and field data in collaboration with REs to qualify hardware and maintain fleet reliability
• Drive simplicity into the Parallax analysis stack by developing simplified and reduced-order models that conservatively capture physical phenomena at the minimum level of complexity that enables functional hardware
