Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command at PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD seeks a Combined Trades Supervisor II in the Pipe Shop to lead a multi-trade crew in overhaul, repair, and modernization projects.

Summary

You will serve as a Combined Trades Supervisor II in the Pipe Shop, Production Resources Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

• You will serve as a second-level supervisor, exercising full technical and operational authority over a multi-trade workforce.
• You will be the senior onsite authority responsible for planning, directing, integrating, and executing complex, multi-trade work essential to submarine and ship overhaul, repair, and modernization.
• You will have a master-level of practical knowledge of multiple trades used to direct the work of subordinate supervisors and their crews to meet critical project milestones.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

• Analyzing and approving work plans developed by subordinate trade supervisors, monitoring the status of their work in relation to the overall project schedule, and adjusting for emergent requirements.
• Setting deadlines and establishing the critical sequence of work operations to be followed.
• Planning, directing, integrating, and executing complex, multi-trade structural work essential to submarine and ship overhaul, repair, and modernization.
• Developing and executing long-range work plans and integrated production schedules on a quarterly and project duration basis.
• Determining the resources, materials, equipment, and skilled personnel required to accomplish long-range project schedules.
• Additionally, I performed such tasks including determining sequence, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments; estimating material, equipment and manpower needs; developing and implementing work and safety procedures; AND executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, deciding conduct related matters, and supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Temporary promotions may be extended up to 5 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations.
