Job summary

Cascade Natural Gas Corporation seeks a skilled welder to perform joining operations and maintenance on high and low pressure vessels, meters, regulators and pipelines. You will lay out, measure, cut, fit and prepare materials for joining, and support distribution piping maintenance.

The role requires welding and fusion training, the ability to read drawings, and compliance with safety around gas vapors. A first aid card and CDL readiness are needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 6 months pipefitting experience.
• At least 1 year welding training/experience in the gas/utility industry.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and assess hazards.
• Completion of Cascade Natural Gas welding/fusion training.
• Must obtain/maintain a valid first aid card and CDL eligibility.

Job description

Summary

Under general supervision, use oxyacetylene, electric welding and heat fusion methods to perform joining operations necessary to construct and maintain high and low pressure vessels, meter and regulator stations, pipelines or piping systems; lays out, measures, cuts, fits and prepares material for joining; performs other duties relating to the maintenance and repair of distribution piping and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school education or its equivalent and a minimum of six (6) months progressive experience in pipefitting work.
• A minimum of one (1) year of training and experience in welding in the gas or related utility industry.
• Ability to work from and complete legible construction drawings; familiar with hazards involved in welding and fusing in the presence of gas vapors.
• Completion of a course of instruction at a Cascade Natural Gas Corporation welding and fusion school.
• Must secure and maintain a valid first aid card.
• Must be able to qualify for and acquire a commercial driver's license.

Additional Information

• QUALIFYING TESTS: Welders must maintain proficiency in oxyacetylene, arc welding and fusing. Qualification tests constitute the Company policy in maintaining this proficiency. Every welder must submit test coupons as required, and field test coupons may be taken from any welder or from any weld at any time. These must pass the qualification test which is outlined in Cascade's Company Procedures or the Heat Fusion Qualification Guide.
• Employee bidding into this position must meet the minimum qualifications and submit weld coupons to the Fab Shop for acceptance into the welding certification program within 5 days of being awarded the position. Employees who fail to be accepted or voluntarily remove themselves from a bid shall have the right to return to their former job within 5 working days of the award date.
• Employees awarded combination welder bid: attend a one-week weld certification program with a minimum of 40 hours monitored by division personnel; if failing, a second certification within 30 days; failure to pass second program allows return to former position.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform heavy work such as running a compactor and jackhammer.
