Job description

A Combination Pipe Welder will weld, fabricate, and assist pipe fitters in the installation of various types of industrial pipe into project piping systems.

Essential Functions/Duties

1. Selects equipment, plans layouts, assembles, and welds, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
2. Layouts, positions, aligns, cuts, assembles, and fits metal components in various positions, identifying all necessary equipment for the job and process.
3. Documents all weld information legibly and creates clear weld maps.
4. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure them for welding.
5. Sets up equipment and welds using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding techniques.
6. Identifies safety risks and adheres to safety requirements.
7. Performs Stick and TIG welding on pipes.
8. Requires at least 4 years of experience welding industrial-sized and graded pipes (Schedules 40, 80, and 160) in 2g, 4g, and 6g positions.
9. Reads blueprints, technical manuals, and engineering drawings to perform work efficiently.
10. Possesses thorough knowledge of various metals, their characteristics, and appropriate welding processes, understanding the effects of welding on materials.
11. Welds multiple types of pipe, including carbon steel, stainless, and chrome.
12. Assists pipe fitters in pipe installation, preparation, and fabrication when not actively welding.
13. Has reliable transportation.
14. Capable of working at heights and meeting physical requirements.
15. Possesses all necessary tools upon start date.

Working Conditions/Physical Effort

Work involves office, shop, traffic, warehouse, and undeveloped areas, with exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and weather. Must access various environments safely, work at heights, confined spaces, and in awkward positions. Capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, standing long periods, bending, and using PPE effectively.
